Earlier, I made myself a White Russian. I took my first sip and actually hear myself "ahhhhhhhh" aloud. I had forgotten just how refreshing a White Russian really was.

So, when it comes to summer, what drinks (alcoholic or non) do you find most refreshing?

let's see... in alcoholic drinks: bogey's lemonade. it's a citron, tonic & sour garnished with a slice of lime. :>

other than that though: real iced tea--ideally, lady gray or a jasmine-based tea. :>

you and hunter should compare notes about russian cocktails. :D

A big glass of iced tea with lemon--I drink the tea, eat the ice, and then eat the lemon.  Nothing better for a lawn chair day..... (Corona's and lime hit the spot, too--but only in moderation in the hot sun)

silver: the bogey's lemonade sounds really good. i like vodka and lemonade with a splash of cherry juice from a jar of maraschino cherries in the summer.

as far as non-alcoholic drinks go, i too like real iced tea, but i typically just use lipton's for my iced tea. i'm also fond of blackberry peach iced tea garnished with some fresh blackberries.

Zayda:  That sounds good!  I haven't even heard of it!
  • silverwhisper said on Jun 25, 2007....

  • Zayda said on Jun 25, 2007....
wombat: i usually eat the lemon too. :) and although, i'm not a big fan of corona, a nice light crisp beer is refreshing in the summer. i prefer blue moon ale with a slice of orange in it.

the vodka and lemonade is very refreshing. it's very light and if you aren't careful you can drink more of them than you intend too.

yes, silver, vodka and lemonade is teh roxxor! :)

Zayda:  All these things I have never heard of!  Blue Moon Ale and a slice or orange?  I need to re-think my whole world...
  • Zayda said on Jun 25, 2007....
QP: Any particular kind of beer you prefer in the summer?

Wombat: Blue Moon is bottled by the Coors Bottling Company.

  • wombat said on Jun 25, 2007....
queen:  That's called anticipating the obvious.... You knew I would ask!  Ha....Well, have a redhorse for me!  Is it dark or light?  Sounds like it might be a little wonky but good!

zayda- For a mixed drink- Colorado Bulldog.

A punch I like is a bottle of Ginger Ale mixed with a small can of frozen Welch's grape juice.

    Another non-alcoholic punch-
5 cups fresh or frozen lemonade
    3 cups cranberry juice
    3 tbl spoons lime juice
    4 cups ginger ale
It might taste somewhat tart but sugar can be added if wanted.
    We never add sugar.
  • D6fer said on Jun 26, 2007....
I would have to agree with the iced tea.....we drink gallons of sun tea each week...just good ol' lipton.....and the corona with lime.....oh yeah!
  • jadestar said on Jun 26, 2007....
the only alcoholic drink that makes me go aaah is Southern Comfort (do y'all get there; does it go by another name?). Otherwise, refreshing drinks: rock shandy (soda water - club soda? - mixed with lemonade & bitters - now that's aaaah. Also being a bit of a caffiene junkie, I love iced coffe........
  • missb said on Jun 26, 2007....
I love white russian! Could do with some now :)

Wait, are we talking about the same white russian? is it kahlua mixed with milk? I love kahlua.

    Question!

Vodka and lemonade. Does it have to be some type of a lemonade juice? And what vodka goes best? Absolut? Finland? Stolichnaya? Belvedere? Thing is, i've never tried vodka lemonade, so i'm curious :)

Oh, as for summer non-alcoholic drinks, i love iced coffee and tea! For iced tea, i like iced lemon tea :p

    Cheers!

    hahaha i a good guess... =)

Fresh lemonade does it for me. :) Especially if there's a nice wraparound porch, a swing or rocking chair, and a reasonably balmy evening to perfect things.

I'm with the iced tea and lemonade crowd.
  • botoni said on Jun 26, 2007....
With alchohol I m very fond of margaritas. My alchohol free pleasure is strained water melon pulp mixed with diet grapefruit soda.

Beyond: Okay, what is a Colorado Bulldog?

    That punch sounds really good.

D6fer: Ahhh...another iced tea fan. :) I like lipton for my sun tea too. I'm not really a fan of Corona though.

Jadestar: Welcome to my blog.  We do get Southern Comfort here, and yes, it goes by that name. :) I've actually been to where they make Southern Comfort a couple of times while traveling. I like club soda with lemonade, but I usually don't add bitters to it. And iced coffee is always good. :D

Yes, MissB, that's the White Russian I was talking about. For the Vodka and Lemonade, I simply make a gallon of lemonade and then use the lemonade I make to make my vodka and lemonade cocktails. In a pinch, I've used Lemonade flavored Koolaid instead of real lemonade. I use whatever vodka I have on hand, which is usually Absolute or Finladia. I save my Grey Goose for vodka martinis or Chilton's.

Sweet_Cookie: We'll add you to the lemonade and iced-tea fans!

Skald: Well, I'd gladly offer you a refreshing summer drink. Do you have a favorite?

MsBradford: I like iced tea, but after bartending for awhile in college/grad school, I got tired of seeing and smelling Long Island Iced Teas.

U-I: Yikes! How could I forget margaritas. I love margaritas. And I'll add you to the list of iced-tea fans as well. Heck, I should just have everyone over for iced-tea and lemonade. :)

Infernal: Oh...well, I don't have a wrap around porch, but I do have a nicely shaded large front porch that you are welcome to come join me for lemonade on any time. :)

Pickers: Well, you can just come join us on the porch for lemonade or iced tea as well.

Botoni: I'll make you a margarita any time Hottie Bottie. :) Oh, and that watermelon pulp in grapefruit soda sounds good. I'll have to try it.

    zayda- colorado bulldog-

1 shot vodka (some use gin)
    1 shot kahlua
    splash of milk
(I know this is starting to sound familiar)
add coke- we add more coke than most, many use a splash.

When we vacationed in New England, we had to tell every bartender how to make them. We generally said make a white russian, add coke and serve in tall glass with ice.
  • silverwhisper said on Jun 27, 2007....
oo, that sounds rather refreshing, beyond!
