This weekend I went in to have my hair trimmed.  I really liked my stylist (who I just met) and decided on a whim to trim more than the usual 1/4" off the ends.  It turned out really cool, and I think it brings out my eyes more.  Before I show before and after pics I have a question for soulcasters.

What length hair do you guys like on a woman?  For the ladies, have you ever kept your hair long or short because your guy liked it that way?

I like a womens hair long or very short.
My bride has midlength hair and say's long
hair is too much work and short hair makes
    her look butch...
As she puts it, It's my hair live with it...
  • beyondtheveil said on Jun 25, 2007....
unique- Normally I used to say long, but that was from looking at too many models. Depending on who the cut is on, I like them all. Different cuts look good on different people. The only thing I don't care for is the extreme for either men or women.

I don't like a shaved head on a man or super short on women. A woman with hair to her ankles I don't care for either. Balding is fine- it looks natural.

The worst thing for a man is when he does a "comb over".
    Your losing your hair !!
You know it and everyone who see's you knows it.
Had a guy at work who did a huge comb over, I think
it started from his underarms and looked like you
could break a 2x4 over it because it had sooo much
    hair spray on it.

I like long hair on a woman, but not TOO long. I think it's kind of overkill when women let their hair grown down to their butts or something. I like it past the shoulders a little though. But there is something to be said for a cute shorter haircut. Like one that comes to the chin. That can be really sexy. But I don't like really short hair. Like a boys hair. That totally turns me off. I want my girl to look feminine.

slirpuff - I dont like comb overs either.  I call them convertible cuts, since a good wind will make the "top" fold up.  Your wife has the right idea on taking the middle ground with hair length.

BTV - I think you can find a face that will make all but the most extreme cuts look good, and conversely not every face goes with every cut.  I think a guy who is self confident enough to not camoflage baldness is sexy.

ET - I think most guys would agree with you on the short hair theory.  Very few female faces can pull off something that extreme.  Chin length is very flattering to most women.

i use to play with length of my hair alot... i would let grow long then have it cut in a new style then even go on a bob cut... but since semi hubby and i got together he wouldnt let me have a short haircut, he wants it long. actually this is the first time i had my hair this short since we started dating, but my hair still falls below my shoulder line...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 25, 2007....
Sweet Cookie - your hair must grow pretty fast to play with so many styles.
  • sweet_cookie01 said on Jun 25, 2007....
yes it does... in one year i usually have my hair in 3 different hair styles!!! what i love the most is when i cut short then style it as it grows...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 25, 2007....
Sweet Cookie - I'm afraid not everyone has that kind of luck.  The last time I cut my short (really short) it took over a year to get to a decent length.
  • sweet_cookie01 said on Jun 25, 2007....

thats what my family says too, if i have a demi moore type hair cut (like in ghost) in january by december it will be one length brushing on my shoulders...

I got my hair cut really short right after my first child was born, but I started growing it out after a few months because I got called "Sir" in a restaurant.

Right now, my hair is just below my shoulders.  It's a good length for me--with four girls and lots of stuff going on, I don't want a style that's too high-maintenance.  Last summer my hair was much longer, and I had it cut to just shorter than chin-length so I could donate to Locks of Love.

honestly, i think that hair styles really need to suit the woman wearing it. for example, my wife i think looks great with long hair but she also looks fantastic with a pixie cut.

I wear my hair in lots of different styles. Right now it's cut in really long layers and falls just below my shoulders. But, I've had it cut in a pixie cut as well and been told that it looks really great that way too.

I like my hair super-short, but it's not a flattering look for me (just easy to take care of), so I don't keep it that way. DH is the only one whose opinion matters, and I know he likes it longish, so I generally let it grow and just have it trimmed now and then. It's not that important to me, and if it makes him happy (though I know he'd never tell me not to do something I wanted with it), why not go with that? :)

My hair is long - just below the middle of my back.  I find it easier because there is very little styling involved but it can still be worn several different ways.  You asked if we would wear it a certain way if our guy liked it.  Mine likes my long hair and says cutting it is a deal breaker.  :-)  Of course he's joking......I think.
Looking forward to your before and after pics.

I've always kept my hair long cause i like it. I think i look better and more feminine with long hair :)

Plus, my man likes it long too, so that's a bonus ;)

Ps: Can't wait to see the pic!

    Cheers!

My ex always liked my hair longer...but i just never let it get too long.  Were separated now, but the other day he came by the house and looked at me after i just got a hair cut and said "you know you would probably be able to get dates it you would let your hair grow out"  I thought that was pretty hatefull!  It seems most men like longer hair....

When I met my husband he told me he loved long hair.  So I grew it out for him and loved it myself.  He actually joked that cutting it was grounds for divorce lol

Then it got so long it was down almost to my bum.  I still loved it, though it was a lot of work because I have super thick hair and lots of it.  I swear I have enough for two people and a child.

But then people would come up to me, people I didn't know, and touch it and say how beautiful it was.  And usually in an elevator where there was no escape, and lots of old ladies that had super short hair, and it was just weird.  So because of that, and the time I had to allot for upkeep, and the fact that I was constantly screwing up the vaccuum with the hair I shed, I decided to cut it.

I cut it to mid back length, and cried.  Then a year later I cut it so it was about 1/4 of the way down my back.  Then last year I let my girlfriend cut it and she totally messed it up, and it was to my shoulders.  I was mortified.

I like long hair, on me, anyways.

i've had mine on the long side most of my life.

now it's in layers...past my shoulders about 2 inches.

  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 26, 2007....

Eilan - I think it's great that you found a place to donate your hair.

SW - It's very apparent to me that you would love your wife however she wore her hair.  That's so sweet.

Zayda - So you're one of the adventurous ones.

Infernal - Very short hair is very easy, but few can pull it off.  It's nice that you defer to your hubby.

fearing - There are advantages to having long hair that you can just toss into a ponytail and such.  A deal breaker?  Common, there are more important things.

missb - It's important that you wear it however you feel most feminine, and if the man in your life enjoys it that way too it's a good bonus.

allswell - I wouldn't put to much weight behind his opinion.  He obviously has issues and prejudices with you dating anyway.

Sarafina - Very long hair is unusual, so I'm sure people did comment.  My daughters was at bum length until about a year ago and she would always get comments.

SL - Layers seem to be the most popular way to wear hair these days.  It does add "lift".

Okay, I'm going to post the before and after, I'm just having a technical difficulty.  Hopefully I'll figure it out before too long.

  • secretlife said on Jun 26, 2007....
ui: yes about the 'lift'.  i have poker straight hair with zero 'lift'....so i usually wear some kind of layers just so i can have the illusion of body.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 26, 2007....
SL - me too.  I'd have been "the bomb" in the sixties

SW - not everyone is as enlightened as you
  • lfbno7 said on Jun 26, 2007....
for me it isn't the length that's important except that i don't find very very short hair attractive, when it is so short that it looks butch.  i like hair that frames a face nicely, and i find that dark hair does that better than blonde or red hair.  i like straight hair, or slightly wavy hair, but not curly and definitely not way out wide at the sides.  i don't get why such a fuss is made out of blonde hair, because i think that black or dark brown hair is prettier.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 27, 2007....
lfbno7 - I'm a brunette, so I will agree that blonds have nothing on me!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jun 27, 2007....

Okay, I'm still having problems with my camera, but I did manage to find a really bad picture of the new haircut.

The first photo is of me in April, with hair that is well past my shoulders.

This is my new haircut that I got last weekend.  I know it's hard to see, but the layers you can see are the longest and sit at about shoulder level.  The rest is in shorter "just rolled out of bed" toussled layers around my face.

SW - me too.  It's really easy since all I have to do to get the "just rolled out of bed" look is to ........... roll out of bed :)
