well, i just got an e-mail officially notifying me that the contest sponsors opted to go in a different direction. ah, well...it was a longshot in the first place.

but you know what? it's still a story that, in a week or so, i'll be able to pick up and finally finish the way it deserves to be finished. they were right not to select it: it's pretty poor right now, but when it's realized its full potential, that story is gonna kick ass.

Ah, man, I'm sorry you didn't get chosen. Your writing is actually very good. I don't consider myself a writer by any means, but I have written some stuff in the past. And I find that it's much easier when you can be free to write what you want, exactly how you want. Time constraints and word counts always fry my brain and I get a total writers block. School assignments were the worst, but if I wrote for fun, I think I did a good job. Such is life. Better luck next time, man!

Ed, you have a good attitude and I trust that you will follow through with that desire to write it like it should be written :-)
  • sweet_cookie01 said on Jun 20, 2007....

    now thats a good attitude!!!

when you have rewritten and edited your paper it will be best seller and they would feel stupid for not picking you!!!!

  • beyondtheveil said on Jun 20, 2007....
Ed- Sorry to hear that. But I have every confidence you will one day "kick butt".
  • quietone said on Jun 20, 2007....
if at first you don't succeed....and there is no doubt that one day with your determination and talent...you will!!
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Jun 20, 2007....
And that, my friend, is exactly how you should look at it. I know you weren't happy with the version you turned in, but when you have it done the way you know it can be, you'll have won anyway. :)

Sorry Ed.  I wanted that for you.  As always, you have a good attitude!

    You crafty wordsmith you.

My condolences in you not winning the contest, but once you chisel away the last unwanted bit and see the worlds(words?) you've sculpted, take a step back and have another look at it.  Be proud of your creation.  I would consider myself most fortunate to read it someday.

    Ed,

I'm sorry to hear you weren't chosen.

Once you tweak what you have, I bet another publisher will want it.  This is just a springboard.

    Good luck to you.

Silver, sorry I didn't know about the contest and double sorry you are out of it, but your last sentence is a general inspiration!
  • wombat said on Jun 20, 2007....
Ahh...Sorry the material wasn't what they were looking for.  Maybe next time!  I did the same thing last summer with a short story that I thought was good enough to win hands down and be published. They were looking for more of a "science fiction" slant, not irony and humor.  I had been working on a science fiction story, but didn't even pay attention to the rules.  I just sent the one I had finished and thought was a winner!

I'm sorry it didn't work out this time....but it will. You have a great attitude about it and that's what's most important isn't it? (Please say yes because that's what I've been going on for the last few years! LOL)
  • cateemay said on Jun 20, 2007....

    You tell those editors, Ed!

I'm quite curious to read it myself...

  • Lioness said on Jun 20, 2007....
For sure there would be a better opportunity to publish that ed. And next time, it would be well worth it. Cheer up! =)

Silver: I'm glad to see that you aren't terribly disappointed at not having the story accepted as part of the contest. But, having read the story, I know what great potential it does have. And yes, when you are finished with it the way you want to be finished with it instead of a rushed job to the ending, it really will kick ass.
  • LadyGamer said on Jun 20, 2007....

At least they TOLD you no. Rather than just letting you hang.

    That was good.

  • silent_wisp said on Jun 20, 2007....

    I sad to know that....

But anyway those editors will regret someday..

I'm sure there are better opportunity in the corner. Just don't quit!! ^

Well, my friend, if you just look at how many people have already commented here, you can see that you've made some pritty good friends up here. I am sure it is the same way in your personal life too. That is always a wonderful thing to have, especially when things don't go your way and you need to pour it out.
I'm sorry it didn't work out this time. It will next time. You know that, I know that, now it's on you to make them know that too =]

ah, the contest is over and now you write it for "you". Likely to be the best ever...follow your heart! M
  • silverwhisper said on Jun 21, 2007....
evil_twin: thank you for the compliment, but deadlines are an unfortunate reality of being a writer. i find that w/out limits, i'll blather on well past the point where i should have stopped. for me, writing isn't usually the problem: editing is. :>

polar: i've tried to look at it a few times since submitting it but i think i need to let it go for a bit longer.

sweet cookie: now now, they made the right decision. i rushed it and as it currently stands, i wouldn't pick it! :>

    beyond: thank you.

quietone: that's kinda my hope. :>

infernal: well-said...writing is ultimately a war within oneself, i think. :>

fearing: well, i don't know that i always have one, but i do try. :>

grape: perhaps that will happen some day. :>

CW: exactly--a springboard. as i said at the outset, this will be a worthwhile exercise when it's done for getting me to write this tale. :>

u-i: you know, entering a contest doesn't merit anything. the contest was useful though in getting me to think about a series i've been doing in a new way though, so it was useful as the impetus--or as CW described it, a springboard. :>

skald: i'm pretty sure i know where it goes. :>

GS: you know i will. :>

    destiny: absolutely. :>

kelly: i firmly believe that obstacles are opportunities in disguise. :>

wombat: aw man, that sucks--my sympathies!

ex: yep, that was my plan.

    artemis: thank you. :>

MI: as i said to kelly, i think that obstacles are as a rule disguised opportunities.

cateemay: well, if it ever gets published... :>

lioness: o, i'm not depressed about it. but thanks. :>

super z: i don't believe i've told you lately what a great friend you are. thank you, for everything.

LG: yeah, that's something i very much appreciated. :>

silent wisp: hey, it's been a while--good to see you again! and no, i don't think i ever will quit. :>

zsuzsio: thank you, and yes, it's on me. that's how i like it. :>

mimi: that might take a little while but if you feel like being patient... :>

queen: heh...i'm awfully curious to know how it would surprise me, but then--duh, it wouldn't be a surprise!

froggie: you know, even if it isn't selected for publication for a while, all i can do is my best, and completing a story is its own reward, i find. :>

starryn: good to see you again! and yeah, in time... :>

    ET: thank you, my friend.

    bronx: precisely!

mamie: thank you--i always try to do so. :>

I would like to be an established writer, so I can say one thing here, I sure wish you luck with whatever you do.  Why is it that the one thing I feel I am best at, I am not doing?  If I hear encouraging stories from you, it just might push me.  So keep at it, writer!

silverwhisper:  Wow, I think you nailed it.  I keep thinking I will, but only when I am going to do it.  Does that make sense?   Anyway, I have things started, but not finished.  Can you do me a favor?  Read my Eldora Greenapple blog, just to see if you think I might have a knack for something?  I wasn't going to say anything, but the subject came up, and I believe in things meant to be.  (I am working on other bigger things)
