destiny, i'm a lefty too. and one of my two kids is a lefty too. hey, you could turn this blog into a list of routine misadventures and annoyances faced by lefties. my two favorite ones: (a) i always had problems at baseball, because our small school had only two mitts for lefties; (b) firing a rifle was always more awkward for me.

Right handed, here. I've actually heard that left handed people are much more adept at science and things like that. A lot of doctors are left handed.

i'm a lefty and can't do diddly squat with my right.

evil_twin, the way i've heard it it's the other way around: lefties are better at the creative stuff; righties, the analytical stuff.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up 'left handed' on Google. You guys are right about the artistic thing. I guess I'd just never heard that before. But it did say that left handed people are more common amongst the 'genius' set, which is why I think I thought they were good at science and stuff.

Apparently, I am among geniuses here! Is it too late to change my answer to left handed? :-P

Right handed here.  You know that the opposite side of the brain controls the opposite side of the body, thus left-handed people are in their right minds. . .but where does that leave us right-handed ones?
  • silverwhisper said on Jun 20, 2007....

totally left handed here ~ the saying is that left handed people are the ones in their right mind. ...we use the right side of the brain to be left handed!  And yes,I think most left handed people are craft oriented one way or another. So the saying goes anyway.

destiny- Right handed. I can do quite a lot with my left except write- God, what a mess that is.
  • Zayda said on Jun 20, 2007....
I'm ambidextrous. I honestly use both hands equally. I've been known to freak students out because I'll be writing something on the chalkboard with my right hand and switch in mid sentence to my left hand.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Jun 20, 2007....
I am left-handed - but I write with my right hand.

The reason for that is simple. When my parents noticed my left-handedness, someone (I suspect my grandparents) convinced them that I would have it far easier in life if they "corrected" me early on.

I still open doors, block a blow, etc. with my left hand.

Anything I learn to do on my own (like bowling), I do left-handed. Because of this weird split between my natural tendencies and my upbringing, I can do many things (like opening or pouring a drink) with either hand.

I'm right handed, but left footed.  I'm not sure how that happened.

I have two kids, one of each.  My daughter is the left handed one and it breaks my heart that she has to work twice as hard to learn things in a right handed world.
  • quietone said on Jun 20, 2007....
infernal ~ I was told that back in the day, most left handed kids were taught in school to become right handed. my guess is that it was easier to teach them to write.  Now that they no longer do this, there are so many more left handed people.
  • cotteralladams3 said on Jun 20, 2007....
I am left-handed, don't see what the big deal is, and can handle a right-handed world.  I'd like better scissors and can openers for left-handed people.  Can never find them anywhere.  Hate being called 'southpaw', 'leftie' or other stupid terms.  I don't call right-handed people 'northpaws' and 'righties'.
  • ohtidak said on Jun 20, 2007....
    well, i am right-handed person..

but mom told me (and brothers too), that i used to be a lefty... and they managed to changed me before i was 6, with lots of efforts of course..

to me personally, i wish i am lefty now :P i always train myself to be a lefty "again", but just couldnt do that, or rather tired..

I'm right-handed, as are Daughters #2 and #3 and my husband.  Daughter #1 is left-handed.  Daughter #4 will be four years old in August, and she honestly hasn't exhibited a preference yet.  Some days she writes and eats right-handed, other days she's a lefty.  Guess we'll continue to wait and see.

My great-grandmother "forced" my grandma's sister to become right-handed, and it apparently caused her a lot of anxiety when she was a child.
  • satyr said on Jun 20, 2007....

I'm a lefty - as is one of my two sisters - but none of my four kids ended up that way.

btw - what's a left handed monkey wrench??? isn't that grounds for a discrimination suit?  or a hate crime??? LOL

LOL @ polar...  Edwin...  OMG,  Heeheehee..

I'm a righty all the way.  My son is left-handed when he writes.  With everything else he is a righty.

I'm righthanded... my uncle is left handed and my grandfather made it miserable for him insisting he 'become' right handed... was it such a big deal in the 50's?
  • Froggie_50 said on Jun 20, 2007....
People who write Left handed write forward... People who write right handed are writing backward! Of course, Im left handed! :)

I'm kinda contradictory - like with everything else!  I write with my left hand and do most other things with my right.  I used to be able to write very well with both hands but I didn't keep up with my right and now it's sloppy.  I love being a lefty!  Different is good!

I'm right handed, but did you know there's a store for left handed people in Quincy Market?  That's in Boston, Mass.
  • Eilan said on Jun 20, 2007....
I should have mentioned in my previous post that although I'm right-handed, I do some things, like shuffling cards and sweeping and mopping, left-handed.  I never realized it until my mom pointed it out to me when I was a teenager.

I can write left-handed, but you'd need a mirror to read it!
  • Lioness said on Jun 20, 2007....
I am right handed too.. I'm still trying to do things with my left like brushing my teeth or combing, I've read it stimulates the right part of the brain. I can scribble with my left, but it looks like a grade1 penmanship. =)

actually left handedness is up - not so abnormal anymore - I am left handed, and so is my husband.
  • BrenneeLee said on Jun 20, 2007....
    A little complicated for me.

I write and eat left handed.

I throw a ball, shoot hoops, cut with scissors, and bat right handed.

My hubby is also a lefty.

Just tell them that lefties are in their "right" mind. (cause we use the right side of our brain more)
  • TinSoldier said on Jun 21, 2007....
    Lessee here...

I'm right handed. My wife is left handed. So is one of my sisters, one of my brothers, and my stepmom.

My son (the middle child) writes and eats left handed but he throws and catches right handed.

I can solder left handed, but I'm not very good at writing left handed.

I'm right handed but use my left hand for many things, writing with it, however, is messy. My father insisted that the reason he was washed out of a pilot's course in WWII was because he was left handed and the controls were right handed. (That was the tragedy of his life, he always regretted that because he so much wanted to be a pilot). Re the last posting: it is a classic fraud type, and described on snopes Urban Legends site. One of the previous ones was supposedly Yasser Arafat's wife saying she needed similar help and offered a similar percentage to get her money etc. The countries and the people change, but the texts are almost identical.
  • destinydiva said on Jun 21, 2007....
thanks trinov... i deleted it..... I know I'm naive...and  wouldnt do anything about it ....but my mind thinks what if its real.......  for like a second then I think why on earth would they be subscribed to soulcast if their story was true.....but then my mind thinks what if again....then i convince myself that its posted on dozens of posts.....then my mind thinks what if again.......  oh well :-)
thanks for all comments...... will reply soon promise x

I'm a lefty...my parents are both righties and although I write and eat with my left hand..I can do most everything else with my right.. Although...in school..when practicing techniques..can be difficult because I am inclined to use my left and usually it's set up for a right handed person.. In one of my psych classes we took a poll to see how many lefties were in class..there was almost half ...-I'm in nursing-..interesting. According to research..less than 9% of the population is left handed... I like being a little unique.
  • soleme said on Jun 26, 2007....

Destiny- after giving this much thought, I would have to say it depends on what side my husband is on. But as far as writing, I am right handed. I have heard that left people are the only ones in their right mind. :)
