I have a theory that sadistic personalities are drawn to the packaging design field.  It has to be so.  Why else would someone design barbie boxes that require a master's degree to open without having a nervous breakdown?  Ever try to fold one of those cardboard office file boxes?  I always end up tangled up and swearing.  I hate blister packs, they're of the devil.

Add pill bottles, soda cans and bottles, packages that my mom sends and you can make me a full blown lunatic.

Which packages do you hate having to assemble or open?

Oh, yes - blister packaging makes my ass twitch, my head hurt, and sailors blush. I cast aspersions on the inventor's mother's sexual purity, etc. when I'm trying to open one of those stupid things! Argh!

And WHY do they have to tie down every wheel, corner, fender, or spare part of a $3 toy?? It took me a good twenty minutes to free a small plastic boat my daughter received this weekend! Oh noes, don't make it easy to open - those cheap boat thieves will spirit them all away! WTH?

infernal - preaching to the choir my friend.  I get positively nutty when I have to liberate toys from packages.

I'll be back in the morning to chime in to any more responses.

    CD and DVD packaging.

Any plastic packaging that is glued around the entire seam instead of being press fit and stapled shut. Fortunately I carry a pocket knife, but I always worry that by destroying the packaging will make it more difficult to return the item.

Which is probably part of the rationale behind it.

Pretty much anything that's packed in styrofoam drives me crazy. They get in tucked into the box SO freaking tight, that sometimes it takes forever just to get it out of the box. It's like suctioned in there. Also, once you get out, don't even think about getting it back in. I've had to return stuff packed like that, and I just throw it all in a bag and let the store deal with it.

Tin, you got that right.  The sadist who invented CD packaging needs a good swift kick in his nether regions.

funny that almost all toys like the barbie, cabbage patch, brats makes me and my daughter feel irritated with all the wiring and staples it has on it!!!

OK, maybe i'm weird, but i like opening CDs and DVDs...

but i do hate blister packaging, esp because for some stuff, manufacturers use some very robust damned plastic!

Another vote for CD/DVD/computer game packaging.

The week after Christmas always sucks, because it takes me at least that long to get all the kids' toys opened.  Tears up my hands, too.

I'm with everyone on the cd's and dvd's

Also those resealable packages of lunch meat, for some unknown reason I can't open those damn things without destroying the resealable part...

TS - I have literally cut myself on CD/DVD cases.  I also agree that the type of packaging you have to destroy to open is part of an evil no return plot.

ET - yes, it's almost like you need to know origami to make the styrofoam work.  I also hate it when little pieces flake off and stick to you, the product, the cat, etc.

MissMimi - give 'em a kick for me!

Sweet - You're in good company.  I start whining about the packaging while I'm still in line to buy the stuff.

SW - But weird in a good way.  The blister pack wrap is probably laced with titanium threads or something.

Eilan - I have a package cutter that I use to break into packages and someone usually gets cut around the holiday.  Luckily it's been superficial up to now.

D6fer - Let me know if you find out who the "genius" is that sold everyone on the CD/DVD wrapping.

ginger - where did you find it?!  I've never heard of such a thing, but there is an obvious need for it.

Another - I like the one with zippers best or even the ones in tubs.  Much easier to get in and out without casualties.
