That's an excellent quote.  How would you go about finding enough truly objective people to do the investigations though?
  • bloc said on Jun 14, 2007....
no one is truly objective. That's what peer review is for :)

    Oh we're talking science.

Sorry I see bloc and assume we are talking about torture.

we're talking about that as well. I think I see your question now. No one is truly objective. That's what you have a brain for :)

The problem arises when people refuse to consider a point or a fact because they don't want to. Examples abound right here on soulcast :) They have "contempt prior to investigation"

Yeah but in many cases its gonna be hard to find somebody who is even mildly objective.  It might not be contempt per se but I can't imagine going into an investogation without an preconceived notion of guilt or innocence, or starting a scientific experiment without a hypothesis.

Not to mention once you escape the similarity of both are quests for knowledge I think these two subjects are too far separated to make good correlations.

i think there is a giant difference between objectivity and integrity. I think objectivity is highly overrated as I've said many times before. A person can have strong subjective opinions, wear them on their shoulder, and still ahve a high degree of integrity. The integrity is what is important.

Rush Limbaugh is biased and dishonest. Andrew Sullivan is biased and honest. Many news anchors are not biased in their reporting yet they are neither honest or dishonest. They give equal air time to both sides of an argument even if one side is total b.s.

Which of those three is the best source of information?
  • SeanRenaud said on Jun 14, 2007....
Biased and honest obviously.  I can agree with you  on that.
