A few months back I decided to make a quilt, and try to sell it online.

So I made a crib-size quilt.

I shared a photo of it with a few friends, and one of my good friends who just became a grandma asked to buy it.  It sold before I even had a chance to post it!  She said she liked the idea of her grandbaby sleeping under a quilt made by me.  That touched me very much.

I guess I'll have to make another one to sell.  Fine by me!

Fantastic!  You do very nice work.  I'm so impressed.

Please tell me (if you don't mind) how much you would charge for a Queen size quilt.  I love hand made items and I'm not talented in that direction.

    it's beautiful.

i'm telling you, you could make a FORTUNE selling these!!!

Y'know, unique, I have never made a queensize quilt, but I've seen them for sale, and they can be pricey.  Upwards of $300 if memory serves.  If you like, this is a website for crafters where people sell their handmade items.  It'll give you some idea of what you can expect as far as pricing goes.

CreamyMimi - Yeeehaaa! That is SUCH GOOD NEWS :-)))))))  I am so chuffed for you and I think its a fab idea.  How about making those little quilts and selling them to new parents and the like??  I'm sure there will be lots of takers :-))

I'm happy for you my friend, you deserve the very best!

Mimi what a beautiful quilt. ;-)

Mimisweets! That is one darn nice quilt! The hours and hours of work that go into a quilt, not to mention the love, make them pretty much priceless in my eyes. I have seen queensize quilts go for as high as $1000.00.

Mimi......you could whip up a super neat business ...why don't you open a website and post pixs of your creation...in no time you will be rich...:-)

this one is really, really nice.....great job!

Mimi: It's a beautiful quilt. And I too think you could make a fortune making and selling your quilts. :) Like Botoni mentioned, I've seen queen-size and king-size quilts go for as high as $1000.00 or more, depending on the intricacy of the pattern, the weight of the quilt. My mother is finishing a queen size quilt for my son, and I know how much money and time, and most importantly, love she has put into it.

wow! that is so cool!.... let me know if you have posted some to sell okay... i will be bidding for it!... i love having a comfy quilt when i put the airconditioner in the coldest temperature!

    It's beautiful!

You could make money at this, if you wanted to.  My mother-in-law has made quite a bit of money selling quilts, though she hasn't had time to do it lately.  My husband says she's sold them for as much as $1200 and some of them are valued at more than that.
  • MissMimi said on Jun 14, 2007....
$1200??  Pardon my French, but holy shit!  I just can't even imagine anyone would be willing to pay that much for a quilt, unless it was an antique.  Seems I have some research to do.

More and more I am thinking I might like to devote more time to this and get serious about doing custom work.

Thank you for all the kind compliments. :)

Mimi it's absolutely gorgeous. Going to be one lucky grandchild under that quilt and I bet every time your friend sees her grandchild with your quilt she's going to think of you.

Destinydiva...yes our Mimi is a very special lady. Stick around and you'll see for yourself.

What a sweet thing for your friend to say! :) I love that quilt, btw. Very pretty! You could definitely make money off of those.

I'm quite fond of quilts - my great-aunt used to make them, and when she chose to "retire" from quilting, she made one last quilt and gave it to me. :) I treasure it highly - quilts are masterpieces and are made with lots of love and effort!

Missmimi....Something I forgot to suggest but you probably already know. Sign your quilts, either with your name or with a trademark of some sort. It adds to their future value.
  • sweetsoul said on Jun 14, 2007....

infernal you're so right. Within the last few years of my Mom's life she took up quilting...in part I'm sure, to leave a tangible part of her here on earth. She made the first one for me - machine pieced and hand quilted. She then made one for each of my sons and then two more for me. I have one on my bed right now. It's such a treasure to have a hand made quilt made by someone close to you.

Botoni you're also right. Mimi remember to sign your quilts.

Sneaking another peek at the pic. It's just lovely hon.

When I saw your quilt just now I thought that with work like that you could have a nice little income. Then I read this post and saw that many were suggesting it ahead of me.
A hobby you enjoy that makes a bit of cash, what could be better!

We are getting ready to go to the party. TOH asks me if he should wear a jacket. I say that he should, so off he goes to get one.

The phone rings. It's a long-standing family friend.

"Please tell me this isn't true," he says.
