I have be hearing about the criticism from Americans regarding Canada's seal hunt. Some are even asking Americans to boycott Canada as their vacation destination. The next thing you know they will be criminalizing dead seal parts in the U.S. as they have done in some European countries
Without the income from murdering baby seals, seal hunters wouldn't be able to get drunk every night or buy more items to kill seals or anything else for that matter. They only take 270,000 seals between November 15 to May 15 every year. The fact that global warming is reducing the seal population hasn't hindered hunters from finding their 270,000quota.
The suggestion that hunter's income would be drastically increased if they offered seal tours similar to whale tours is ludicrous. Because as we all know, anyone who condsiders running around in the snow killing helpless babies as hunting, is way too stupid to conduct tours or do anything else for that matter.
Without the seal hunt, seals could no longer been seen as a pests. Then how could fisherment rip off insurance companies by falsely blaming seals for ruining their old, rotted nets? And then the government could no longer blame the seals for reducing cod fish stocks. People might find out that it was European and Japanese drag nets that reduced all marine life in Canadian waters because the Canadian goverment was too wimpy to stand up to them. What a tradegy that would be.
So to my U.S. neighbours, as far as the criticisms and the boycotts go. All I can say is, keep up the good work! :)
