The headline reads: New Orleans— Fueled by a post-hurricane spree, Louisiana’s state-licensed casinos won a record $2.38 billion from gamblers during the state’s last fiscal year, despite having fewer gambling outlets after the storms.
My question is ...morally, a city is destroyed. No houses, no place to go, people were buried and thousands are still battling insurance companies for a roof over thier head and still no electricity on lots of streets and boats parked in the median. Yet its people find time and money to gamble? This is a record high from gamblers !! And although out of state workers contribute, could they be making that much money in New Orleans? I mean whats this picture portray about value, time and money?
For the state’s tax take for the latest fiscal year was $508.5 million, up from $453.3 million in 2005-05. A record high from gamblers!!! Do you think its more from out of state? The press stated its also partly due to the Mississippi Gulf Coast casino's destruction. So you're telling me Louisiana sets records and because Mississippi is destroyed, theyre coming to Louisiana? Whos coming from Mississippi?
I wonder if anyone playing casinos was standing in line for help from FEMA or the Red Cross or the Food Bank or some Katrina help Foundation. If nothing else is rebuilt, the casinos are ready for action. Wheres the real damage here? Do you support gambling? I suppose its for the high rollers to understand.
