I thought this was pretty interesting.  You always hear the romantic notion of a girl who marries someone just like her dad, but does this really happen?

It was interesting to note that for those girls who did not have a good relationship with dad, that they tended to be attracted to those men who did not look like dad.

In my case, my ex does not look like dad, but more like my favorite uncle.  Not surprising since my dad missed a bunch of years of my childhood.

So, did you marry someone just like dear ol' dad?

Ha, I just read that before checking on soulcast. I don't think my husband looks like my dad, sometimes acts like him - and yes I am a daddy's girl.

    some common characteristics.
    i too was a daddy's girl.

My husband and my ex-husband do not look like my dad.  Not.  Even.  Close.

    I wasn't a daddy's girl.

My husband is the complete opposite of my father in every aspect. Maybe I was trying to rebel...who knows...:)

in my first marriage yes... i married someone like my father, my father was womanizer and so did ex hubby... but that was all they had in common..

.i do love my father but there are many things about him they i dont like... when it comes to semi hubby and my father have some similarities... they are both affectionate... and i am glad that that is all they have in common!

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  It seems that the article was pretty much on target then.  I find it ironic that as teenagers we try so hard to be independant from our parents.  In the case of having a good dad, we end up recreating the family we grew up in, and in the case of a not so good dad, we create the exact opposite.  I guess there is very little middle ground.

I was still estranged from my dad when I met my now-DH, who looks nothing like him. Guess it holds true for me, too!

TIO - So far the feedback seems to support it.

Yeah, my wife looks more like one of my aunts. Finding a woman that looked
like a young version of my mother would have been fine too, because she
was fine in her younger days.

Thankfully I did not marry a man who looked like my dad.  Now going through a divorce though so what does that tell you?  It is not just about looks though as  I have just said in my blog.  My dad has been overweight for so long now that I cannot recall him being slim although from pictures that my mum has he was more like slim when I was little.  He is now obese for sure.  The man I married who is now divorcing me unfornately did share one trait with my dad and that was temper.  It is a deep regret of mine that I didnt stop to consider more carefully before getting married to him.  No use looking in the past now, got to make the best of the future.  Btw the man I did marry was slim and fit, was just not good at managing money and had a temper unfortunately.  Those were too good reasons why I left him nearly two years ago!

I can believe it.  I fell in love with a man who was just like my dad.  I had thought it was a good thing.  When my dad killed himself, he brought comfort to me because he was just like my dad.  but then he turned into an asshole like my dad, and the honeymoon was over

Alienated - That's so sweet to hear that a girl like mom would have been great.

sweetlady - I'm glad you discovered the mistake and have chosen to correct it.  Hopefully  you will find someone who, whether they look like dad or not, will treat you right.

destiny - but does he LOOK like your dad?  Too bad he turned out to be a lemon.

amy - it's ironic how some of the traits we find familiar are a comfort and others are a curse.
