A democracy can be a dangerous place for common decency, especially when the playing field has been leveled for both the modest and courteous and mixed equally with the rude and vulgar.  With the prodigious use of the f----word, so glamorized by the entertainment industry, it is obvious the rude and vulgar are winning the popular vote.  And it is not difficult to understand why.

The rude and vulgar have a certain arrogance and false self-confidence that stupid people generally have.  They are easily recognized by their baggy clothes that only a clown would wear, studs, ear rings and tattoos are standard fare.  It's not too difficult to understand why cool and fool pretty much sound the same, like dude and crude.

I know that people are going to ask what planet I came from, or that I'm completely out of touch with the real world, which is why I'm wondering why people want to look like they just crawled out of a dumpster?

I like nice people that reserve the f---word only for times when they get really mad and when nobody is around.  The ugly things that we do should always be kept private...and we all do ugly things at times, its part of being human.  Grace, beauty, and courtesy is what raises us above the ugly and what most people aspire to.

If you are comfortable, happy and not harming others with your actions I don't see why we should aspire to be anything else?  Don't get me wrong, I can justify not wanting cursing in certain public situations but the rest of this seems to just be drivel.

    Ok Hottips.

Please explain to me who should get to choose what is proper language and dress.  Also I want to clearly know how tattooes, peircings or even baggy clothes relate to your inteligence, or even your class outside the mind of a close minded bigot.

This is the same line of thinking that keeps gays from marrying, that kept blacks from being equal, that kept women from voting.

I am compelled to ask- who defines what is "decency"? Are they to remain the same people in every generation? That there may well be the precise reason why the rude and crude" people you refer to dress, act, and speak exactly as they do. They do not wish to accept the judgement of people who feel that they can define what is "acceptable" and what is "decent".... There were those who considered Titian, Michalangelo, DaVinci, Botticelli... to be vulgar and crude. Those who considered the ideas of Galileo to be beyond simple vulgarity to the point of heresy.
I will not argue that every teen with a stud in his tongue and his pants half down is a progressive artist... rather, they are, mostly, those who, lacking the gifts to create their own rebellions against acceptability and so-called decency, follow the setters of trends. Unfortunately, there's a bad feedback loop caused by the Media, which will market to these rebellion-craving minds anything which will get them to spend their money. Thus, the unwashed masses are fed regurgitated resampled, pre-packaged, marketable "difference", and end up all looking alike. Happened with the great artists in the renaissance as well, to a lesser extent. The less refined and advanced artists would simply copy the styles of the artists who were getting paid to paint by the media of that era, ironically, the church.
The point here though, is simply that there must ALWAYS be something that shakes you. Always be something that threatens, that offends... that's what artists and progressives do. And when they don't? Then everyone gets to be forced to define themselves by the standards and limits of a very judgemental few. And you really don't want that, do you? So, you don't have to like baggy pants and rap. I don't like 'em either. But they are the avante gaurde, and they are necessary, to freedom of thought, including your own. 'Cause there's plenty who would like to say that *your* way of thinking is wrong, too.
