I'm 5'7" and weigh 175 pounds. Yes, I need to lose a few pounds, I'm reminded of this in some form every day. But based on what I see, hear and read in the media, being thin is never good enough. We live in a society in which Drew Barrymore, who is pretty much as close to perfection as one can get, is considered fat or chubby. And Scarlett Johanssen, who is tiny, is considered a voluptuous girl. How thin do you need to be in order to be considered acceptable in society? The trend seems to be heading towards anorexia.

Hate to tell you, but we live in a society that thrives on telling people you're imperfect. It's a mix of capitalism, marketing, and the need to make others feel bad so you can feel better. It's a sad fact, but just realize this, that even if you did lose 75 lbs, you would still not be considered "perfect." So just be you.

I saw a story on the news about pro anorexia websites where they give tips for being effective. Scary!

wow- I will tell you all from talking I have done to men and husbands...the women may think being really skinny is in...but the men dont. My husband has a minimum weight he likes me at (116..Im 5'5) When he is gone like he is now..I tend to get to about 105...I know before he comes home that I have to put the weight back on or he gets really upset...My husband thinks that too skinny is gross and so do alot of other men...Its the women who think being to skinny is good...Im guilty of it at times. Be happy you have a body...Most men find it very sexy :)

Ladies and gentlemen, please listen up. Though there are definitely those who chase the chubbies, most men and women prefer thinness. And by most, I mean 90%. It's a given that men are turned on by thin with big breasts, though someone like Nicole Ritchie is revolting. She's more like a little boy. My point is, at the end of the day, someone like Eva Longoria or Carmen Electra is more appealing than Thora Birch or Christina Ricci. So beth79, keep on trying to lose that weight, you'll be much happier.

Oh God, don't listen to classof01 please. He(?) is a shallow jerk. I would hardly call Christina Ricci fat. Talk about perpetrating anorexia. Lose weight to be healthy, not to look emaciated.

I think classof01 may have been speaking more that Christina Ricci doesnt have as many CURVES as say Carmen Electra and not so much that she is fat..Carmen Electra and Eva Longoria are anything but TOO skinny--They are just both very curvy. I think Classof01 was trying to tell you that losing that weight would benefit you, but khaving no curves at all is too skinny. I think that is what he meant..LOL

This is a perfect exaple why we all want to be thin. Just look at the negativity you are giving to some one who should hear nothing but positivity right now. Oh my G*d, don't you all read the papers? All the stars are on drugs or they're starving themselves to be thinner than the other. And when they get there what do we do? We put them on the front page and rip them apart about being way too thin, unhealty and bad role model to the teenage girls. And what curves are we giving as example? Carmen? Ms. Silicon? So here is what we should do: starve or get on drugs while religiously going to work out and tan so we can look like some movie star wanna be. But than, we will lose all our curves, since G*d did NOT make us all thin. When we lose, we lose from every where. It's OK, because we can always spend our savings on plastical surgeries. How wonderfull. Meanwhile, men are growing beer belly and love handles! Are you out of your mind?! I'll tell you what. I used to be like that. I used to love being thin. But when I showed my old pictures all the guys were wowing at my big boobs I used to have. I had a baby, my body changed and guess what? All the guys are trying to get into my pants again. However, when I gain too much and the clothes don't fit right, I hate myself. So I eat right and work out for myself. I pretend not to look at the weight but the whole picture. And I feel good. No matter how thin you get, your face will not be prittier, your attitude will not get better and no one will give a shit about your new weight but you. And all the haters: fuck you! I can tell just by your comments that you are not bright enough for a decent girl to even hold a conversation.

The way we judge people these days is stupid. Seriously, people should be considered beautiful by their personalities. Too fat or too slim is bad for our healthy. Big can also be healthy, so does slim. Follow yourself. Don't mind what type you are. Just be yourself, like those women at largeplace.com

This is a fat person taking up a fat seat on the plane. A fat seat on the bus. A fat seat on the train. Should we pay for individual transportation by the pound?

It is so easy to fool yourself -...
I am having one of those days where I just feel fat and ugly. And I know that I am being harsh on myself but it feels impossible not to be....
