I finally got my car back yesterday. It feels so good to be mobile again.

All the repairs look good and it drives well.  I'm so glad to have that mess all over with.

I can't speak highly enough about having good insurance.  I have a local agent to deal with directly and the payment of the repairs went smoothly.  Nothing was challenged.  It was such a relief to only pay the deductible and go on down the road.  I would be eating bread and water for the rest of my life if I hadn't had full coverage.

In the past I have grumbled every time I paid my premiums.  I am happy to eat those words.

Have you been happy with your insurance when you needed it?

    [knocks on wood]

i haven't had occasion to deal with them beyond sending payments, and am hopeful of never having to find out anything else, to be honest.

and congrats on finally getting your car back!

    ed,
I'm glad you've never had to test your insurance.

It's nice to be able to go out into the world again when I want to. :-D

I have an awesome car insurance guy.  I gave him my credit card info and he manually makes my premium payments every month.  I recently had a "star" on my windshield and insurance sent a guy out to my house to repair it at NO cost to me.  My agent had signed me up for some special glass policy that saved me big bucks.

Health insurance is another thing most people gripe about, but let me tell you, it's insane not to have.  When I had surgery on my knee in April of 2006 I was happy to have insurance.  With rehab, equip and incidentals my knee would have run me about $20,000.  I paid my deductible and very small copays.

i'm so glad you finally have your car again!!!

insurance has been very good to me.  when you need it, it's a lifesaver, that's for sure!

    uniquely,
It sounds like your insurance agent is a great one.  :-)

I had to use my health insurance last summer when I fell and jammed my elbow.  After the deductible, it paid for everything.

I have never had any kind of insurance, even years ago when i used to drive , "i know, not big or clever:(... even though you were insured sometimes i know it can be soo hard to claim, because we all know insurance companys wil try to use any trick in the book not to pay out....Good to hear things are ok with yours;) ,

    flytimes,
I kind of look at insurance as a very expensive safety net. You hope you will never need it, but you are glad it's there when you do. Does it make you nervous to be without it?

I was just wondering about your car earlier today, CW.  Glad to hear that you finally got it back.

The only recent dealings that we've had with an auto insurance company was almost two years ago when someone ran a red light and hit us.  I thought everything was handled well.

CW....i am really glad for you....:-)

I had to test the quality of my car insurance two years ago when a 18 wheel truck crashed the left side of my car...yep...my side...the truck basically stopped only few inches from my left leg...

luckily i was barely moving...the asshole told me later that he wanted me to notice him since he was pissed off of us little cars going in his way...like i had a way to go...i had to merge because my lane was closed ahead due to road work....he simply didnt want let me in.....

to make a long story short...my insurance paid for the replacement of the whole driver door, the front left bumper and left lights. I had to drive for one week with a rental but when i picked up my car it looked as new and i had only to pay the deductable...

I am still with that insurance...

    Eilan,
Thanks for thinking of  me.  Waiting on the repair work to be completed was really frustrating, but the insurance part was hassle free.  I'm glad you only had the one experience.  That's enough!

I would be paying out forever if I had had no comprehensive insurance. I have MS and one day I had a seizure while driving in the car park at work,I went out of control and totaled 3 cars including my own.It was touch and so whether the company would pay it or not for a while, but they finally came good.If you drive without insurasnce you are really playing "Russian roulette" I think.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 02, 2007....
    rupert,
That sounds like an awful wreck. I'm glad the insurance paid out for you.  I wouldn't want to take the chance of going without insurance either.

creativeWoman, yes, a person is not really saving by skipping insurance and then is involved in a collision.Even a small accident can cost a lot of money these days.
My insurance company didn't want to pay out, they say, because I did not declare my medical condition (M.S.) when I took the insurance out. That is because I didn't know I had M.S. at the time, it took a letter from my Neurologist to convince them of that.
  • flytimes said on Jun 02, 2007....
Creative, I have no need for insurance at all, If my home cathes fire, and i lose everything which is not much, so be it, its only possesions and as long as i have my photos i dont care.. my cats dont need it because, here in the uk, we have the Blue cross, who are there to help animals in need if your unemployed so thats ok, It would be nice to leave something for my kids or my sister if i die but i cant afford to pay for this so Que Sera,Sera....do you still drive rupert? if so you need to be very carefull as i have seizures very often and i know if i was driving how fatal this can be like you mentioned..

    rupert,
Depending on the insurance agent and/or company, they do often quibble about things. I'm glad they paid out for you.

My car would have cost me $7,000 to repair it out of my own pocket.  I will always be thankful for my insurance.
