Last night was so incredible. My daughter is finishing middle school and the school district here does not have graduation ceremonies for 8th graders. Back in the dinosaur days, we had a really huge ceremony. Anyway, they held an awards ceremony to honor the students that did extra well and my daughter received an invitation. Her Aunt and Grandmother came along with me to show their love and support. I actually took the liberty of asking her father and his long-time girlfriend, but as usual they forgot all about it in the two days between accepting my invitation and actually having to show up. I know that is a VERY long time to remember your own child's schedule. I truly did not expect him to be there, but my daughter heard them gladly accept and take down all of the details, so she was hoping he might come. This would only have been the second time he would have actually followed through on a promise. My daughter was less emotional than I was when she realized he was a no-show. She is a strong young lady.
So! This is the great part! My daughter won awards for excellence in language arts, physical education, and band. Then they gave a few awards to the kids with exceptional grade-point-averages. My daughter received the President's gold seal award for academic excellence. It came with a letter from the white house and everything! I was the crying, screaming, beaming Mom in the second row. What a huge accomplishment for her. I have never missed a single shining moment in my daughter's life. I am so frustrated that her father chooses to miss all of these amazing events. At least his mother and sister were there to share in the celebration. I could not be any more proud. What a great night for her!
