I have been on a quest to become and stay a positive thinker.  My main focus has been to push negative thoughts out of my mind.  I have these daily affirmation cards called Healing Cards by Caroline Myss and Peter Occhiogrosso.

Each day I shuffle the deck and pull out just one card.  I am to read the card and think about how I can focus my awareness of the topic to my life that day.  I'm to think about how my actions can help me to maintain my own spiritual balance.

Simple enough.  It's an easy way to work on me.

Today I drew a card about love.  It says...

Love is a deep pool that never dries up.

You have more to give than you realize.  The only expectation you have in giving to others is what you expect of yourself.  That's how you stay replenished.

I am focusing on the part that says I'm more than I realize.  It's because that for the first time in my life I do realize that I am deserving of everything wonderful out there waiting for me.  I plan to stay replenished for a very long time.

(Thanks KC for helping me to open my eyes.)

Do you have any little things you do to try and keep yourself thinking positively?

usually, my wife's smile will do that for me, but when she isn't with me, i try to think about the sound of children playing. that usually does the trick, i find, unless i'm actually angry, in which case there's really nothing to be done.

    ed,
Love is a wonderful thing.  You and your wife have a wonderful bond.

I also like the sound of children playing.  Sometimes when I'm at the lake walking, I hear them on playground equipment in the distance.  It always makes me smile.

When I'm having a rough day I think of my children and friends.  They are my blessings and being blessed makes me happy.

I try to think of all the things that I have accomplished and and how much progress my children have made since when I first met them.

    ed,
You're welcome.  It's too bad that as adults we forget how to play like that.  We wouldn't have to worry about thinking positively then!

CW this might be strange to you but I think of my darkest hour and then look at today. It always helps me recall that things get better when I accept that they will and do the things that are required to make it better. You ve discovered this in your own way.

You are very wise.  I have discovered what you describe in my own way.  I tell myself when I start feeling low in the now that it's better than it was and it's only getting better.  :-)

    Hello C/W  :
I have learned that love comes when u least
expect it and no matter how hard u try -- no
matter how much u love someone -- if they
don't share those feelings for u then pain is
sure to follow . So i have learned to smile
and see the good in each day . To remember
her as we were before the " dark times " . To
keep her smile close to my heart and try ( even
though it's not easy ) to let go of all the bad
shit that happened . Love might be a pool that
never dries up  but it can become very hard
and crusty if we are not very careful .  It's also
true that if someone does not want to be helped
then there is nothing you can do .
Silverwhisper :  We don't have any kids but our neighbors 2 boys are such a delight and they just
get into everything . I watch them and then i
remember what it was like for me at their age
learning about the world and how things work .
I take great delight in watching them . I just
can't get mad at them and even when i do
there is no way i can mantain that anger -- they
are just to much fun .        Sand

    Sand,
I'm glad you can find the good in each day. ....  I've been on the receiving end of the hard and crusty love.  It's definitely a two person job to keep that pond full.

I have CD's I listen to while I am relaxing in bed called "the Psychology of winning" by Denis Waitley. They are really good. Makes me think more about my day to day decisions. What we focus on is what grows in our life. Also  "The Secret" was a eye opener...All the best Creative Woman.

I am glad you are realizing that you are worth all the good that's waiting for you out there. I think you are a good woman and deserving of more. I pray you recognize it when it comes to you. Those healing cards can help you be aware of how to prepare your mind and heart.

For me, I take a walk and listen to some favourite music or visit some place where there are trees, rocks and a river.

I enjoy listening to Dennis Prager on a local radio station. Every Friday he hosts a segment on his show dubbed the “happiness hour” in which he talks about the importance of remaining (or at least acting) happy for the greater societal good. (Being Jewish, Prager calls happiness a “moral obligation.”) It’s usually a very insightful hour.

    CW.....good for you....:-)

I actually like to be in a negative mood sometimes....it makes my mind sharper...i can see the tridimensional aspect of everyday events..i feel even more creative...my poetry comes out a lot easier...

I dont find self help books, cds, healing cards or wellness blogs useful for me....i know they work greatly for a lot of peope......but after a while they bore me.....i mean......i already know what i should be supposed to do....

I actually like to dive in the negative mood. Sometimes i purposely listen to some music or read something that bring me back to even harder times, so when the present bad moment is over the positive one will taste really wonderful......

Laughing for me is the best way to get out of a negative thinking route.......working out ....talking with friends... and naturally have fun with my daughter....

Sometimes...no matter how hard i try i simply got stuck..... and then....only my daughter is able to give me the right motivation to go on....

  • MissMimi said on May 30, 2007....
Ginger, what you said... that is exactly correct. There are times when I dive right in and wallow in it. These are the times I put some nostalgic music on the CD player and quilt my brains out.

Life is too short ~ don't sweat the small stuff.  There is always something or someone sad to say in a worse place than me.  I try that on for a while and it seems to help the pity parties.

I have been at a point where all I felt was bleakness.  I don't want to go back to that.  I am trying to put good thoughts out into the universe to see what comes back to me.  It can't hurt.  :-)

    Mimi,
I used to do that sort of thing.  It often just made me sadder.  Now I'm trying to keep my eyes on the big picture and not be so narrowly focused on the here and now.

Awesome, more women need to change that mind set and work towards staying positive even during trials and tribulations. When we think negative we are inviting negativity in our lives in all aspects. I personally pray when I start to let negativity surround me. I find it peaceful and it works.....
