Well, here it goes with my first post. I'm a film student in New York, focusing on the audio aspects of film production and post-production: boom operating, sound mixing, sound editing, and film scoring. I sound mixed (and boom op'd) an indie feature last summer, and I've boomed on a few other professional-level productions; since then though I've mainly been doing documentary and promo work, shooting and editing videos with small crews. I've scored a couple of short films, including an NYU senior thesis short earlier this year - wrote and recorded the music, and performed most of it myself (and it came out pretty well if I do say so myself, although the damn sound designer decided to make my stereo mix mono, which sort of killed it). I'm definitely not at a professional level yet but I've done some good work and worked with some great people.
Basically on this blog I'll be blathering about the things I find interesting: my experiences on shoots and in post; audio equipment, software and hardware that I find worthwhile, or not; sound design and scoring in feature films, docs, shorts, and TV shows that I think is awesome/sucky. I hope I get some good conversations going.
