In response to another Soul Cast blog posting, since I am member of this fine community, I am going to give another viewpoint about gun control. It was dark outside, and the crickets chirped loud. The log cabin had just been finished and we could finally relax inside next to the fire. All of the sudden a bear smashed through the door and ate my father and mother and left me alone to be raised by wolves. Maybe if we hadn't traded our shotgun for food. That is why people need guns; to protect them from things like bears. I don't remember the last time I saw a bear, and I have never needed a gun. Guns are used to kill people, and for some reason I feel like we have enough of this already. I say ban all guns of any type, just so the we can feel a little more safe at night. There will still be guns on the streets, but if it is illegal to have them people might think twice before whipping them out. If you need a gun to "protect" you family, maybe you should be nicer to people and stop attracting the sort that would hurt you and your family. I mean, I try to be as polite as possible, and I feel safe leaving the front door unlocked. (don't ask where I live) I say the less guns the better. People don't have the respect for human life to used them correctly, and I think as a society we have advanced beyond the need for such a violent tool.

cricketsoda, I understand what you're saying me comming for the country in Canada. Honestly I know MANY people have guns and was never afraid of them, I believe that people just need the correct education and be raised knowing what the concequences are. I assume that it's unfortunatly not like this all over the world. Honestly anybody who dosen't use guns for hunting should not have a gun...especially handguns since who needs those guns? Not a hunter!

My whole point is that guns are something of the past, and we need to work on getting rid of them. Why do we still make them? Oh, and about the home invasions silver, why dosn't someone deserve to die because they are on your property? We don't give the death penalty when some steals something, so why should you be allowed to murder someone? To me, that is just silly.

So if guns are a thing of the past...what are we going to use? Lasers? Or a gun like the goa'ould use on stargate? I'm sorry but you have to be realistic about it! Guns, bombs, etc...will ALWAYS be around and there's nothing to do about it, or we can always live in a different society were we can take happy pills every day so we won't think about war! What do you think?
guns are something of the past, and we need to work on getting rid of them.
sez you. you don't get to determine what other folks do and don't need. neither do i.
why dosn't [sic] someone deserve to die because they are on your property? we don't give the death penalty when some steals something, so why should you be allowed to murder someone?
you're obviously unfamiliar w/ the phenomenon of a ||{1}||. fortunately, i can educate you. now that you understand the matter better: would you care t o re-state your position?

My position is that if people need something as stupid as a gun to feel whatever it is they are trying to feel by having it, we should be able to do something as stupid as creating their own country so that they can all shoot each other and leave us peace lovers alone.

The reality is that there will always be good and bad people. It's not the guns that need to be eliminated, it's the evil within people that needs to be eliminated. A policy of no gun ownership cannot guarantee a society of crime-free citizens. Even if gun ownerships were denied from civilians, intruders and robbers can and will use any type of arms to commit their crimes. If you suddenly found an armed intruder inside your house making unreasonable demands at gunpoint such as your cash and valuables and a chance to rape your love ones, how would you defend yourself? How about calling 911?

Prove that, I don't recall honestly cuz that's really not my mentality, I actually have some guns.

Being robbed at gunpoint only happens to drug dealers.

if i had a robber in my house, i'd shoot him and aim for his torso. my marksmanship isn't very good and it's better to shoot the bad guy than risk missing him and possibly continuing to endanger myself and/or others. ed

I think this article is very pertitent to the discussion... http://www.harvardmagazine.com/on-line/090433.html The main points are that crimes like assault and robbery are on the average scale in the US amongst industrialized nations, yet lethal deaths are very high in the US. The cause is guns from the ease of their accesibility. The argument quells common oppositions in the US to gun control. "A determined criminal will always get a gun," responding, "Yes, but a lot of people aren't that determined. I'm sure there are some determined yacht buyers out there, but when you raise the price high enough, a lot of them stop buying yachts." In continuation of the report is a listing of solutions. Very insightful article.
