Just wondering about how you do your laundry and take care of your clothing....

Ironing can be such a chore, especially if time is against you!

DO YOU IRON OR DRY CLEAN YOUR CLOTHING?

DO YOU HAVE A PREFERRED CLOTHING MATERIAL/FABRIC - cotton, linen, jeans, polyester, etc.?

DO YOU WASH-AND-WEAR OR USE WRINKLE-FREE CLOTHING?

WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAND WASH OR MACHINE WASH/DRY?

IF YOU HAND WASH, DO YOU SQUEEZE/TWIST OR JUST DRIP DRY?

Bronx, I dont like ironing. . .I would rather scub the floor on all fours than iron!  It is the chore I least like.  I dont iron anything that does not need ironing and I most certainly dont iron underwear or "regular" pajamas!
  • botoni said on May 24, 2007....
Since my work seldom requires that I need to dress in business manner I purchase as much wash and wear as possible. I machine wash except for the items that must be dry cleaned. Most of the time I hang any thing that will stay on a hanger but use the dryer for jeans, underclothes, etc. Dress shirts that are wash and wear still require some touch up with an iron in my mind. I only iron immediaely before use.

I prefer anything I can wash and wear.  I do have some dry clean pieces.  I avoid the whole ironing thing by owning  an industrial type garmet steamer.  Works wonderfully!
  • Eilan said on May 24, 2007....
The lower-maintenance, the better.  I do laundry for six, so I want things that are as easy to care for as possible.

I can't remember the last time I used an iron.  Early 90's, maybe?

Dry- Clean? At $12 a shirt? And $22 for trousers?

No way! I don't mind doing th' laundry or th' ironing (no, really I don't); but I admit it's a bummer when i have a jacket that says D-C only. I tend to wash it carefully myself anyway.

I bet Eilan is like me - read the care instructions before buying? Easy care clothing is the preference

we have someone who does our laundry and ironing... most of my clothes are just neatly folded after they are hang dried..

but when i was married i do my own ironing... i use an iron aid.

i prefer wash and fold clothes like those from abercrombie, american eagle, old navy and gap. they are much comfortable to wear.

  • Expendable said on May 24, 2007....

Washer and dryer and a drying rack. I use a spray bottle instead of using steam, it works better for me when I iron. I've got stuff to treat my dry cleanables.

  • queenparanoia said on May 24, 2007....
sometimes if our househelper is not home and i badly need to wear that piece of clothing i do my own ironing and laundry.
  • Lioness said on May 24, 2007....
Yes, I iron my own clothes, especially my uniforms. I'm used to doing this since I was a college freshman. No, I don't do my laundry, but I always make sure I personally wash delicate fabrics. I am fond of using jeans. Cotton and polyester are my stuff.

I prefer to wash and wear clothes so I could save up on energy.
  • Dicconzane said on May 25, 2007....
I can iron my cothes. But it's my partner who does, in honesty. My suits get dry cleaned but that's about it.

    I'm lucky.

  • skald said on May 25, 2007....
I don't iron my cloths if I don't have to and I wash my cloths if there is a coat that my be dry cleaned I take it to the dry cleaners but I don't have many things to take there.
  • missunderstood1162 said on May 25, 2007....
I have a stand up steamer like a professional steamer and it's a marvel of mankind really.  I adore it.  I keep it in my bathroom and steam my clothes wrinkle free before I walk out the door!  I'm in love with it.

  • evil_twin said on May 25, 2007....
I am a jeans and t-shirt guy. I don't own an iron. I've got a few nice shirts, and I'll just take them to the cleaners and let them do the dirty work for me. But generally, I just try to take my shirts out of the dryer and hang them up before they get too wrinkled.

SW: haha... hi, well....it's the fastest way to really know everyone in SC, IMHO.

You're lucky...I'm sure she does a wonderful job of it, too!
  • darkpearl said on May 25, 2007....
I haven't ironed in years. I hover by the dryer and get the clothes out as soon as it stops. Then hang them up right away.
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
polar: hi...yeah, I know what you mean....I can still hear the snickering of those who are simply amazed to hear that underwear and pajamas could be ironed!

Of course, one would need to have a lot of free time or good house help to do that chore now....
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
botoni: oh, the pleasures of modern living!

Nothing beats a steady supply of electricity, right?
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
U-I: that's amazing - your own wrinkles basher!

I envy you...but wasn't it too expensive - just to avoid ironing?
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
Eilan: yes...it's easy to see now when / how an iron can just become a little pile of metal to be ignored.
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
Tappa: I agree with you - at those prices, one is well advised to inspect the care label before going to the checkout counter!

Imagine a two-year old $50 piece of clothing, for example, being  ruined after dry cleaning and a 'we're sorry, the fabric was very delicate - no need to pay the cleaning bill....we'll share the replacement costs, if you show us the purchase receipt...'

    Grrrrr....
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
sweet: hi....yes, wrinkle-free clothing is unbeatable!

Expendable: hi...I can see you're pretty self-sufficient in that department!

queen: hi....that househelper must be told to stay home more often, right?
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
Lioness: hi there....yes, everyone needs to be an energy conservationist - that's a pretty smart approach to lowering the energy bill, IMHO.

Diccon: I can imagine that doing the laundry is not a chore at all for you most days....lucky you.

skald: that's a really interesting and manageable way of looking at it all, as long as one appears presentable... Cheers.
  • Bronx said on May 25, 2007....
miss: that certainly sounds like the machine is definitely a good value - fantastic!

e_t: sounds pretty fly to me....way to go!

    darkpearl: hi...WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Well....doesn't really matter if the dryer sheets are stuck on, does it? Haha..

    Quite efficient, IMHO!
  • fancy79 said on May 25, 2007....
Yes, I iron all my clothes. It's really not that big of a hassle for me. I never take anything to the dry cleaner unless it's absolutely necessary. I also machine wash all my clothes. I use the dryer sometimes and sometimes I hang them in the house on hangers.

hi Bronx.  lazy yes, efficient no. I spend half of my time looking for my glasses and the other trying to remember what I was going to do.

    fancy: hi...WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Glad to hear that....I am like that, too, but I often hang them outside the house on hangers whenever I need to do so.  :  >
  • Bronx said on May 27, 2007....
Holly: haha....by golly, you're still 'invisible' I see - I just forgot! Heehee.
  • Bronx said on May 27, 2007....
darkpearl: hi.....does that sounds like a condition to look into? Seriously....?
  • darkpearl said on May 27, 2007....
lol.  no, but thank you for your concern.  I'd love to hang my clothes outside but I have to use dryer sheets to completely get rid of the cat fur in my clothes.
  • Bronx said on May 27, 2007....
    darkpearl: phew....now that's really great news. :  >

Yes, cat fur can be a woolly problem - I think you've just discovered a new use for dryer sheets!
  • darkpearl said on May 27, 2007....

and only Bounce dryer sheets work. I found a new use for those rubber gloves you wear to wash dishes. put it on and drag your hand down your clothes to get rid of the fur before you go out the door. It also works on furniture , drapes etc. Used dryer sheets can also be used as dusters.  I know I am getting off the subject of ironing but apparently I do that alot

  • Bronx said on May 28, 2007....
darkpearl: Can I call you just 'pearl'?

Yes, Bounce is a very good brand.

I think you're doing just fine - you never know who you're helping out with your discoveries around the house!

    Well done and cheers!
  • darkpearl said on May 28, 2007....
pearl is good too. thanks. I hate housework so I am always up for tips to make it quick and easy.  That's why I hang around my dryer so much armed with coat hangers. hehe
  • Bronx said on Jun 02, 2007....
pearl: haha....I can just see you now hoisting them out and away on the hangers even before they've cooled! Haha.
