  WindRider, if you're anywhere near a decent sized city, I'd suggest that you find a local munch group to meet others who are in the bdsm community there. You'll no doubt find others with whom you have much in common and can begin to find and build relationships with like-minded folk.

I also have an ex-gf who has become a "friend with benefits" and she's just as much into this as I am, so we've played a lot. But what I need to do is join the local dungeon. I've already contacted them but I'm hesitant to get involved like that... not sure why...

  WR, jumping into the scene at your local dungeon might be a scary first step. I suggest that you and your fwb go to a local munch to get acquainted with a few folks in the local scene. These are usually much less threatening than a dungeon experience and will give you a few connections with people for when you are over your hesitation about going to the dungeon.

  I guess the munch IS what I was talking about. The local dungeon holds one every month. I know it's a good idea, but it never fails, when that ONE day comes around, I've managed to space it right out of my head and I end up missing it. The other problem is, I will, but do not want to go alone. My fwb works 3rd shift so getting coordinated with her was chancy at best.
  
  It'll happen eventually.  I just have to remember my priorities.

  If your fwb works third shift, perhaps you could find a noon-time munch on a weekend that she could attend with you.

  for me, sex is give and take.  one gives, one takes.  relationship is so much more important than friction.  i know what you mean about wanting to be both dom and sub.  you're more of one, but you respond to the other too.  me too.
