I have considered selling one of my organs for money many times, and wondered how many of you would ever consider this?, could you do it ? The reasons when you become so poor and in so much mental and physical pain, you end up thinking all kinds of strange weird things

nope... i would rather donate it than sell it... its a special gift that is priceless...knowing that my organ has extended or imporved anothers life is enough payment for me.
  • flytimes said on May 23, 2007....
well said sweet_cookie, I will be donating my whole body "whats left of it" when i die but untill then i know other people are in need of organs and are willing to pay for them... people who cant get them in the country there in or do not want to wait the years it could take! its a tough one and although its not politically correct, theres a big market for this service, which i shall continue to investigate.. ps i hope your feeling much better now, and will be getting properly checked out;) fly

*fly*-- I once knew a man who towards the end of his final years decided to sell his body to science. They paid him well, and he used the money to make his last days comfortable. There is also another way to go-you won't get money but... You can donate your body to science and in exchange they will purchase a plaque or a stone with your name & all, even without the body buried below it!!

I personally, would never sell or donate my organs. I guess that will sound callous to most people, because its considered a gift of life. However, my spiritual beliefs are strong in that I must go to my death in my whole, intact body, or the soul can't rest in peace.  I believe many Jewish people use this concept as well.

Besides ( and I know this sounds morbid & sick--which means it could be great story material), what if you were involved in a major car accident. You are in critical condition. Even the paramedics don't think you will make it. And you have a donor card. They have a list. One person on that list needs a liver, another, a kidney and so on. And you have a donor card. What decision would they make?

honestly, i wouldn't b/c even though there's redundancy in the body (2 kidneys), just in case something happened to me, i might need that now-missing part.

there is strict protocol for organ donation, so HGL it is unlikely that any medical professional would hasten your death to have access to your organs.

I would consider selling 1/2 of my liver since it is the only organ that regenerates.  I would even GIVE it to someone if I thought they'd make good use of it.  The rest I'll keep until I'm done with them thank you!

uniquely*--that last part of my post was a joke (great story material).

I have am already an organ donor but if i were in need and had the courage and that it would help someone else, the price was right for me at the moment of needs and i would be in good health with the exception of the organ that i will be missing but health life i will have, i guess i will consider selling.

Holly i respect what you say and you have given me some ideas of my funeral,,hopefully not soon lol..and your last bit was no joke to me and that does worry me if im in an accident and maybe one of the doctors had a friend, or family member who was in need of an organ that suited him.... its a tough one.. Ed, I think if you were really poor and needed to do it, having a very large "and" friendly family could resolve your fears..;) Secret i see you will be leaving exactly what you came with lol. Queen. can have your details please ... hehe Dicconzane.. after reading your very 1st blog i see your a fellow londoner;)nice to meet you n thanx for stopping by.. southern.. everyone has the freedom...(ok it depends on the country sometimes) to do what they want to do and everyone has there price no matter what it entailed..

  • flytimes said on May 27, 2007....
I suppose my reasons for thinking this way about selling my organs is when you become so poor and in so much mental and physical pain... (too long of a story) and feel suicidal at times it makes these choices so easy, and saving someones life on top of that is nothing wrong, "or" immoral. fly
  • queenparanoia said on May 27, 2007....

I would sell 1 of my fully functional Kidneys for $100,000,plus full cost of transplant bill.I would save a life and help my family out with our bills.o-pos.

I would sell any of my organs to let my daughter to study in the university. I know it sounds strange... but I am a very healthy 42 years old woman. The only I want in this life is the best education for my daughter. She has already started her university course and I try my best to support her... but it's still so expencive.
