Silver whisper has a blog about the overpayment canadian citizens have made while buying recordable materials.. cd's, tapes,mp3's,... whatever. and I have made some lengthy comments there... and cannot seem to let this one go... too easily. Education time, I guess...
we talked about the gun laws of canada, and how they are supposed to work.
we talled about the border crossing... it is brutal for canadians to get back into their own country having "crossed over"... and any deal on the price of articles of any kind is balanced out at the border: it is a cash register./// and the boys and girls at the border make sure everything gets checked out thoroughly.
as for returning overpayment to the buyers: we looked at barcoding... and yes, the government CAN possibly know who paid what for any item, and how many times, and from where, and with which card or bank account... and we know where you live too.
And then he has the statement that the copyright office must be manned with flunkies from the recording industry.... and I am thinking, well, perhaps there are some "groupies" there... but, not necessarily. I do not think there is much emotion connected to these charges... not any more. It is just business, canadian style. There is a mess in all areas, and in general, you have a small sector of people with a small economy trying to balance out and survive next to a giant... the old, mouse sleeping with an elephant scenario that Mr. Trudeau described. and you have bullies in a small government trying to control the breathing cycles of its smallest and least citizens. It is a push and shove existence, with far too little consideration for the less fortunate members. This is man, planet earth, human nature as we have always known it, I think. Not necessarily good... it just is.
