I like email when I can because I am a better writer than speaker and because email is less expensive than talking on the phone. Besides I get annoyed by the heat that the cellphone emits after talking too long.  However nothing substitutes a good conversation with a good cup of coffee mmmmmmmm.....

some things make more sense as e-mail rather than phone. anything important gets the phone; trivial stuff gets e-mail, in general. at least, that's how i do it.

I do use e-mail a lot. I'm very comfortable writing my thoughts. My extended family all live a good distance away, so it's a good way to fill people in on current goings on. I use e-mail (and IM and messages here and at another site) to communicate with my online friends. My daughter calls me nearly everyday, my son isn't as chatty as she is. Neither one of them answers e-mail. :-\
I have a very good friend that I met online, and we talk on the phone nearly everyday. I mean, long conversations about nothing and everything. It's gotten to the point where we rarely e-mail each other, other than to send specific info, like website links and things like that. And I have another online friend with whom I exchange long e-mails on a regular basis, but have only spoken to on the phone once. It just depends.

when i communicate with those outside the country i use my email... or i chat. If i communicate with someone withing my country i text... but if its important i usually call even it means spending more.

I love emails coz I love writing and it's easier for me to express feeling or other via emails. especially with strangers. I tend to be really closed about my life -- I am not a girl who chats for hours with her best friend telling about my life minute per minute.
If I am nervous or sad or else, I prefer the loneliness of my room, some music on and a blank screen (or sheet, it depends on occasion) to fill with thoughts and feelings.

And I agree with u: a good chat in front of a coffee, or a beer, or a dish of spaghetti, can be unique if u want to talk freely!!

yeah nothing subsitutes a conversion but I have met really good friends online because we have the same tastes we exchange ideas and I learn from others and about myself.

I live in an area that 'Can you hear me now' is responded to with a 'No'  But in general I find that I am able to express myself better by writing.  Which became real handy recently when I 'forgot' how to talk after a stroke.
