The paranormal fascinates me. As a result, I've been swept up in the Sci Fi Channel series Ghost Hunters. They aren't your typical ghost hunters. They go out of their way to debunk paranormal activity. It really has to be totally unexplainable before they will call a place haunted.

They call their organization, T.A.P.S. You can learn more about it at the Sci Fi Channel website if that interests you. They are skeptical paranormal investigators to say the least.

Would you ever go ghost hunting if you had the chance? Do you believe in the paranormal?

i'm not a believer in the paranormal, no. certainly not as it seems to be popularly understood in certain subcultures, anyway.

having said that, i do believe there's more than the world we can perceive with our five senses. i just don't know much about it.

    Ed,
I think it is fascinating because some of it is truly unexplained. One episode of Ghost Hunters that stands out in my memory was where they filmed the image of a confederate soldier on a non-reflective surface.  They tried really hard to debunk that one and couldn't.

Leaves you wondering about a spirit world sometimes.  I'm not into occult things though.  I think there is a difference.

There is a chapter of TAPS in Lexington Kentucky and we have several prominant local doctors who are members.  They go on spook hunts at least once a year.

We have a couple of sprites in our home as well.  It has become a family legend that we all laugh about and just choose not to question.

There is a little girl who writes on the wall with crayons.  I have sealed and painted over them a dozen times and new ones just keep showing up.

There is a tall Amish fellow who stands in the corner of our garage. He never does anything and we pretty much have come to the consensis that he is asleep.

We are logical and rational people but the whole idea is such fun we just accept it.

I have the tendency to watch travel channel's Most Haunted, where they go in a try to catch something paranormal on camera.  Sometimes they do other times they don't but it still makes me jump and wonder if there is something more to this world the us.

CW...coincidence.....i was reading this morning an article about ghost hunter groups. They say here in Texas, at Fort Worth,  40 minutes from my place, there is the largest ghost hunter group of all Usa. It counts 500 members.

Here in Dallas there are several haunted places. The most famous ghost is the Lady of White Rock  Lake .....the legend wants that in 1841 a ghost started to appear ...a young woman would stop people leading them to a house facing the lake. The people would knock at the door and the father of the girl would open and explain that his daughter was dead by some time, drowning in the lake. The visitorss all reported of having noticed a large paddle of water on the porch...

This is a famous poem of Elizabeth Barrett Browning about the reality of ghosts.

     "Earth's crammed with heaven

and every common bush afire with God

And only he who sees takes off his shoes.

The rest sit roud it and pluck blackberries"..

I am curious about these things....

I wrote a post months ago talking about my possible vision of one ghost....still pretty sure he was a ghost...but still...cant convince completely msyelf...:-)

Strange i was thinking of a little post on ghosts. I don't really belive in them but there are so many things we don't understand on this earth. I am going to look at the link you gave. Thanks.

Would I ever go ghost hunting if I could? Yes! That would be awesome. I've had some weird experiences of my own that I can't explain. So I definitely think there's something out there. I'd be stoked to be a part of a ghost hunting team. I love that show, by the way. New episodes start in June and I look forward to it.

    Hunter,
What does the little girl write on the walls...and please tell me about the night lizards.  :-)

    rmuxagirl,
I also watch Most Haunted.  I really like psychic medium David Wells.  It's eerie  how spot on he is with readings of the sites they investigate.

    ginger,
Thanks for sharing the lovely poem.  I love those old stories that accompany supposed hauntings.  They are rich with history and often have a sense of forlorn.

    skald,
    Great minds think alike..  :-)

    evil t,
I think it would be fun to be a ghost hunter at least once with a team.  I think I could keep my wits about me.  :-)  I have had a few sensory experiences, but have never actually seen anything.

    sweet,
Gotta love that cable.  :-)  Ghost hunting would be a one of a kind experience, I'm sure.

I firmly believe in the afterlife and anyone that believes in God has to by default.
That said it stands to reason that there is a spirit world that maybe/probably co-exists with ours.  I don't let any of that worry or bother me though...my beliefs have been cemented already.  Now that some people can see things better than others is a fact as I've seen and felt things several times at precise moments in my life that are unexplainable and I'm no different than anybody else.
It's very interesting all of this and there's so much more that we don't know.

oh, I just love all that stuff! The coincidences that I have seen in watching different shows, etc is so exciting..and the more coincidental the better!! I think the veil is very thin...cool!

    solo,
I think some of it might be to the residual energy they talk about so much on the show.  I do believe in spirits though too.

    RC,
My personal belief is that there are spirits around us. I've read the posts about your experiences.  Amazing.

    Mamie,
I also think that some people are more sensitive to those types of experiences than others.  It's really something.

At each site in our Den and my study the little girl leaves three or four straight lines about two inches long of two different colors.  She uses what looks like red and blue crayon but it will not clean off with any cleaner I have found so far.

When the group of marks come back they are always in a different place on the walls and doors.  The marks are never more than two feet of the floor.

Night Lizards are about 4 feet long definetly reptile in shape.  They are completely transparent but light seems to ripple a bit when it passes through them.  They are very curious and run around looking at things.

They seem to be harmless and rarely move anything.  They are best seen at night with all of the lights out.  Ambient moonlight and the odd indicator lights on electronics and heating systems are just the right amount of illumination to see them.

Once your eyes are used to the low light levels you can sense ripples in the image of things.  By concentrating on the effect of the disturbance you can quickly begin to make out their shape.  I have watched these guys for hours and they never cause any problem.

They sometimes get right in my face but usually wander around looking at anything that has changed in the room.  Only once did they disturb anything.  One of my kids had left an I-Cybee Robot Dog on the top of an entertainment center.

When I saw the night lizard looking at it I jumped up and turned on a light.  Then the I-Cybee was knocked off onto the floor.  They didn't come back for a month or so after that.

    KC,
I've had a few things happen.  Right after my brother passed, I could smell is cigarette smoke around me for probably the first month he was gone.  It was like he was standing over my right shoulder while I was sitting at the computer or watching t.v.    My sister had similar experiences.

    HBC,
That's really something about those marks.  But the night lizards....ok, that freaks me out.  That feels eerie to me.  .... Have you ever thought about inviting T.A.P.S. to come check out your house?

OMG, CW!!!  SOOOO FUNNY that you posted about this!  We will be driving past their office in a week, or so!  Maybe my Husband will allow me to stop and take a picture for you!  I recognize or heard of the rumors of a lot of the New England places they've done.  They did one of the Newport mansions and I feel SO much better after they said it was because of a blocked vent!

They've had a few that freaked them out.  There was one in an old house in CT, I belive, where the pass through door flung open...I almost crapped my pants!

Maybe I can leave them a note to go visit HBC's house!?!

    Daily,
That would be so cool!  I've seen that episode you speak of.  Have you seen the one in the lighthouse where the camera caught that heavy chair and table moving on it's own?  Creepy, fun and exciting all at the same time.

I think they should go to HBC's house too.

The video was titled as a prank, so I suppose it is not real.

    RC,
I would like to do that too. I once stayed in a supposed haunted hotel on Halloween once. Nothing happened in my room.

    solo,
We can all hold hands.  :-)

My first thought about the lizards was to hope that they weren't demons of some kind.

Have you ever seen the show Mysterious Encounters. I'm pretty sure its off the air now, but it used to be on one of the outdoor channels. It was like Ghost Hunters, but involved cryptids instead of ghosts. That show seemed so fake. Every little noise or movement she saw, she thought was bigfoot. Even some her team would tell her that it could be a deer. This happened every episode. She would never see bigfoot(at least I don't remember her anything clear enough to be sure it was bigfoot. Was always stuff like "I saw glowing eyes" or "what was that movement"), but she would always hear a sound that she thought was bigfoot

I think Ghost Hunters is much much better than that show, but it still has some of the elements. Like they will say a table moved, but they could have easy kicked it on purpose or by accident. Or they will claim to just have had an experience, but they didn't catch it on tape.

I believe there really are ghosts, or at least what people percieve as being ghosts. I just don't think an average ghost hunt is exciting enough for t.v. They have to add a little.

  • CreativeWoman said on Jun 21, 2007....
    sasimoh,
You have some valid points there.  I haven't seen the show Mysterious Encounters. There is one on the Travel Channel or National Geographic called In Search Of Bigfoot or something like that.  It appears fake too.  It seems they never have the cameras pointed where they think Bigfoot was just standing.

I like Ghost Hunters too.  I think they are a little quick with their debunking sometimes.  They just say it's something else, so it is.  Then they move on.  All in all, I enjoy the show and find it entertaining.  :-)
