Just that, sunburn!
Except for the time we went to Puerto Galera, I hadn't been to the beach in almost four years, so when I went home last Saturday, I remedied the oversight by spending Mother's Day at the beach with my mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, and sister's boyfriend. As usual, we just brought towels and food, and waited to get home to rinse off instead of rinsing and changing at the beach resort facilities. Somehow food, even when it's only garlic chicken, fresh fruit, steamed rice and grilled fish, tastes sooo much better on the beach. And no, our beaches aren't white sand, but the water's clear as crystal and it's shallow all the way out for at least ten meters.
Unfortunately, I had never been sunburned before, even if I was always first one in, last one out of the water. So now, seeking to get a tan line to wow the poor citybound folks still sweltering in Manila, I spent most of the day lying across an inner tube, being towed about in the water by my brother who was playing merman. Might I add, my sister kept away from me because I was one of the few wearing a bathing suit, which is NOT the norm at our provincial beaches.
Unfortunately, my skin four years ago seems to have been thicker and more sun-resistant than the skin I have now, which is used to air-conditioned environments and six months of night shift. I was thinking that I'd never tan, forgetting that you see the results when you get out of the sun.
The result: a major, super duper sunburn on my cheeks, nose, forehead, upper back and upper arms.
To top it off, when I went to my hometown for the elections the next day, people seemed so glad to see me again that they kept squeezing me and pinching me and tapping my arms. Ooohooohhhoowwwowwwowweehhhwaaahhhh!!!!
Now I'm peeling and I feel like a walking mummy shedding bits of rag as I move :(
