in the US it's most common to call the thing a cell phone, or sometimes just cell. in europe, calling it a mobile phone is the norm. and lately it seems that the suppliers themselves want us to call it wireless.

what do you call it?

I usually call mine Fred, but sometimes when the signal drops I switch to Asshole.

I call mine a cell phone. Truthfully, when I hear wireless my first thought is wireless networking--modems/routers, wireless networking cards.

Cell phone or just cell. And, can I just comment that on Sunday I watched my son and daughter text-messaging. How do they do that so fast? My texting skills are pitiful. I can't get my fingers to move that fast.

Either cell or mobile.  I worked for a company that was based in Finland.  I just picked up calling it a "mobile" and haven't lost it...yet.  I go back and forth!

I use both words cell and mobile. I think the Germans have a good word for it. they call it  handy. We have good words too but then  you had to understand my language to appreciate it.

I usually just call it my cell because I assume everyone knows I'm talking about a phone, and not my molecular cell structure. But occasionally the word phone appears too. I've never called it my wireless though. That doesn't flow as easily.

I call mine a cell.  I can't say I've ever heard it referred to as mobile, though I have heard wireless.  I don't even have a land line anymore, don't see the point to it.

Sometimes I call mine a piece of crap but most of the time I call it a cell phone.
I think I've only heard British people refer to them as mobiles.

My handy dandy Cellie! But only when I've had too much sugar...like right now.

Usually I just call it my phone. Since it's the only one I have at the moment...no land line lol.

CIA. I tell people it means "cellphone in action" but really it means anything you say will be recorded and used against me at some future date.

On the internet, I call it "mobile phone" or "cellphone", but the local term for it is "cp".

'Cell' or 'mobile' depending upon my mood at the time.  Outlook and my database entries default to a 'mobile' as line items for contacts, so I find myself using that frequently.  But the people I work with will say 'cell', so I find myself using that as well...

Like U-I, I find that a land line is pointless, so I refer to it as "the phone." If I am talking to someone on the Internet or to a mere acquaintance, I'll call it "the cell" or "cell phone."
  • silverwhisper said on May 17, 2007....
i've been calling it "mobile phone" for years now, just b/c i think cellular or cell is kinda irritating.

Cell phone?  What's that?  LOL just kidding.  I call it a cell phone, but when I finally broke down and weighed the pros and cons of having one, I finally got rid of the silly thing.
  • livingrisky said on May 22, 2007....

i call it a mobile, but only cause I called it a cell and some stranger gave me the roughest lecture on why it isnt a cell, --Along the line of cells were the first phones...blah blah and these phones today are merely mobile not based off the same technology that gave them the name cell phone in the first place, needless to say all I remember is he was an ass and I don't know if he was right or not--but I call it a mobile around strangers and a cell around my friends--I know none of my friends give a rats butt what I call it and won't lecture me, but strangers--who knows!!!

  • silverwhisper said on May 22, 2007....
RG, yours evidently doesn't get anywhere near as much use as mine. :>

livingrisky: good to see you again, it's been a while. but you know, why do you care what some rude stranger thinks? :>
