I was driving my mum around today, My cell phone rang and it was my husband. He asked me to go to Longhedge, when I was done with driving mum.
Longhedge is my childhood street where my parents house stands. Pálmi my husband said. I want to know if there is some movement at the house.
I said I would do it. After taking mum to the home I went there.
When I drove into the street I thought , I have no busyness here.
The street is one main street with many little streets which we call appendixes.
Our house is on a hill. The street is straight and going up the hill are many little appendixes.
When I came to our former appendix, now I must say former, I saw a car parked out side our former house.
I went into the next appendix and form there I looked at my former house. A man was in the garden taking a ladder from the hedge.
I telephoned Pálmi, saying there was activity in the garden. Who could it be. He looked like my son Beggi from the distance. A jeep drove up to me. I thought I was in the way. It was difficult to turn where I was.
I was exactly where the new house is being built and everything was dug up. I had to take care of not reversing into a pile or a big machine, a bulldozer or something.
My cousin Inga lives in that appendix. I was not going to her place. I drove down the street and when I came to the main street, who do I meet. Yes the new owner carrying a ladder. I opened the window of the car and we talked. I said I was not spying on you. My cousin lives in number 126. Of course I was spying.
I said that I had been hurt in the beginning because he was selling the house for so much more than he gave for it. He said he had to get something for the expenses.
We talked and he said that he was considering living in my parents house. I said I hoped he would. He said it would cost so much to do it the way he likes it to be but he has two other houses and if he sold them I think he could very well do it.
I like that young man and I hope he and his family will stay there.
He told me his grandfather had looked at the house and said he is a fool if he lets the house go.
It is just like I was destined to meet him.

    Hi skald.

What a nice ending to your family home story.  I hope he decides to stay there too.  My Grandmother's house sold once to someone that remodeled it, and then I think it sold to the man that still has it now.  He may be the one that fixed it up though...I just can't remember.  I have tried to knock on the door before, so that I could see all of the changes, and get another glimpse of the woodwork, the archway, the basement door, the porch...you know?  I would like to see it again.  If you know the man that bought the house...you can still 'check' on it from time to time.

    Nice story skald.

    Thank you,
