Thanks ed...actually I'm doing my best to ignore it and thankfully my sons oblige me. I'll be heading off to do some work in a while. I could have gone in yesterday but purposely saved it for today. I've even been known to go out of town for the weekend to avoid Mothers' Day.
Why you might ask? Since my Mom died, this day started being a difficult one for me. I mourn her loss...I remember how when I was young I didn't think she was a very good Mom. She wasn't like the other Moms who stayed home to look after their family. She worked. She didn't have to - my Dad made more than enough money. She wanted to. She always took school holidays off but I still remember coming home to an empty house, having to start dinner, not being able to have my friends over because there was no parent home. I loved her but didn't think she was a very good Mom.
Then when I had my sons my whole attitude changed. I realized that she was really ahead of her time. She was trying to balance her love for her family with her own personal needs. She needed to work for her...not the money. As a Mom I finally appreciated the value of her lesson. So Mothers' Day to me is a day to remember MY Mom.
As for my sons...I don't need a special day for them to show they love me. I feel it every day. Don't get me wrong...I've got nothing against other people celebrating Mothers' Day...just this works for us. My sons will be spending time with their mother-in-law and their wife (a Mom and soon to be x2 Mom).
Happy Mothers day!!!!
