SW: well, some people associate potentially great technological achievements with improvements in future lifestyle, which in turn acts as a motivational yardstick with which to compare themselves to others living elsewhere.
For example, a person living where power supply is taken for granted feels more socially comfortable than another in a country with a weekly power supply of just a few hours!
