A quick rundown of the results on Wild Card Weekend:
Houston (10-7) 27
Tennessee (12-5) 37
Houston kicked a red zone field goal with 11:39 to play in the game to tie it up at 27. Tennessee would kick a field goal and score on a 28 yard pass from QB Martin Thomas, a third year third rounder out of Penn State (98 overall!), to WR Adam Riley, a third year first rounder out of South Carolina (84 overall), one of Thomas' five TD passes. The Texans did well to keep it close, despite losing starting QB Matt Hasselbeck early in the game. They got help from a 72 yard interception return for a TD and a 91 yard kickoff return for a TD. The Titans, last year's AFC champion, reach the Division Round for the third consecutive year.
Dallas (10-7) 14
Chicago (12-5) 24
This one was done at halftime, not because it was a blowout, but because all the scoring was in the first half. Dallas lost the turnover battle, and thus the game. Bears QB Kris Foster, the fourth overall pick in '09 from Oklahoma State (91 overall) was 18 of 25 for 147 and three TDs, with one pick. Defensive POY Will Witherspoon had 13 tackles and a pick for the Bears. This is the Bears first trip to the Division Round since the Redraft in 2006.
Baltimore (13-4) 38
Kansas City (8-9) 19
This one was done at halftime because it was a blowout. The score was 28-6 at half. Peyton Manning had a mediocre day in his team's win, going 20 of 41 for 284 yds and 4 TDs, but had 2 picks. Steve Smith was his favorite target, hauling in 8 for 164 yds and two scores. Manning got help from the running game as second year HB Scott Casey (South Carolina, 83 overall) ran for 119 on 26 carries with a TD. Chris Simms increased his league-leading INT total with another 4 in this game for the Chiefs. This is Baltimore's first trip to the Division Round since the Redraft in '06.
Detroit (10-7) 25
Tampa Bay (10-7) 31
The Lions scored 19 in the fourth quarter to make this one look closer than it was. It was a sloppy game with 7 total turnovers, four of them Detroit's. The Lions suffered injury problems at QB, at one point getting down to punter and emergency quarterback Brian Moorman. Meanwhile, Drew Brees had a strong game for Tampa (22/37, 233, 3, 0), due in large part to Marty Booker, who caught 12 for 127 yards and 2 scores. Safety Roy Williams had a big day for the Lions, leading the team with 12 tackles and forcing two fumbles. The win is sweet revenge for the Bucs, who lost to the Lions in the Division Round last year. The Bucs hope to return to the Conference Championship for the first time since 2007, when they were again eliminated by the Lions.
