Penn State def. 3-0 Pittsburgh 49-34 at home in the annual rivalry game.

Week 5 Notes:

#3 Penn State def. #21 Iowa 41-20, dropping Iowa to 1-3 on the year.

#5 USC def. #23 Arizona 59-24 at Arizona.

#13 Tennessee hands 4-0 Northern Illinois its first loss 24-3 in Knoxville.

#25 North Carolina stuns #2 Florida State 19-13 in Tallahassee.

In a battle of unbeatens, #12 Arkansas def. #16 Georgia 31-14 at Georgia.

#4 Nebraska has to rally from 14 down at halftime to beat 1-3 Kansas at Nebraska.

Youngstown State def. Florida International 42-17 in Miami.

Terence Bozeman, WR for Penn State, moves from 3rd to 2nd on the Heisman watch following a 7 catch, 118 yard and 1 TD performance against Iowa. With two sacks for the second straight week, star DE Matthew Nelson is one away from tying his career high at 6.

The spread offense does not seem to be agreeing with Roderick Sherman so far as he has been held to just 371 yards rushing in four games. He had been averaging over 100 yards per game in his career. His average per carry, 6.2, is also down from his career total of 7.0. Bobby Howard is loving it, though, as he has 15 TD passes and 5 rush TDs so far (his career totals were 12 and 7, respectively, entering the season). Coach Jikolo has commented that he hopes to run the ball more as the team moves deeper into conference play.

Week 6 Notes:

#2 Penn State def. 4-0 Wisconsin 59-3 at Madison. Tom Richards finishes 20-24 for 416 yards and 5 TDs in just over 3 quarters of work.

Unranked 2-3 Georgia Tech def. #22 North Carolina 24-21 at Chapel Hill.

#3 Nebraska falls behind 21-0 but rallies to beat Iowa State (0-6) 45-28 at Ames.

#13 Tennessee def. #21 Georgia 49-35 at Georgia. Tennessee led 42-7 early in the third quarter. The game was not as close as the score indicates.

#7 Oklahoma (6-0) def. #9 Texas (5-1) 21-14 in the Red River Shootout. Texas QB Wilcher finished 9-22 for 95 yards, 2 TD and 2 INT.

#1 Virginia Tech def. NC State (5-1, unbeaten entering the game) 43-9 at Raleigh.

Youngstown State def. UL-Monroe 56-7 at home.

Tom Richards moves to #1 on the Heisman Watch following his monster performance against Wisconsin. WR Terence Bozeman falls from the list despite 6 catches for 151 yards and a TD in the game. Richards has 23 TDs to 3 INT and a QB rating of 239.7 in five games this season, but the toughest part of the schedule is coming in the next 3 weeks with road games at #17 Michigan and #6 Ohio State. Richard also took home Big Ten offensive player of the week.

PSU DE Matthew Nelson had 3 sacks in the win and now has a career best 8 on the season after just 5 games. Nelson is looking to secure his position as a top 10 pick in next year’s NFL draft.

YSU swept the conference player of the week honors with QB Bobby Howard finishing the 56-7 route of Louisiana Monroe 7-10 for 118 yards, 33 yards rushing, and 5 total TD. SS John Maxey finished with 2 tackles and an interception for a TD.

YSU MLB Marcus Adams will take of the starting job from Akeem Gore, according to coach Jikolo. Adams currently leads the team in tackles (27) and sacks (2).

After 6 weeks of play, there are still 17 unbeaten teams in Division 1A.
