I'm having a philosophical moment, so I'll inflict it on you all.

Yesterday morning my car would not start.  I didn't have time to fix it before work so I hitched a ride with my BF.  After work we went out to figure out what was going on.  The battery was good, the oil was dirty but there, the gas gage was VERY low, which surprised me a little.  I don't usually run it dry, which ended up being the problem.

I park my KIA on the street.  It's a humble nondescript car.  Apparently someone took it upon themself to help themself to my gas.  I'm annoyed, but cannot work up a good "angry".
I blame myself for not getting a locking gas cap (which in a perfect world I would not need) and wonder who could be so desperate that they would take the chance of getting caught stealing.  I almost feel sorry for them.  Weird.

How weird is it to not be angry when someone steals from you?  I was totally inconvenienced and robbed and I should be angry.

OK, that's strange, both that someone stole gas from your car, as well as that you aren't particularly angry. what with the cost of gas these days, i'd be pretty irked, myself.

SW - exactly my point.  I'm no Rockerfeller so it does cost me.  As for stealing gas, the cost of living here is so high, I'd bet that 60% live below the poverty level.

well, perhaps you're simply a more charitable person than i am, u-i. :>

I'd sure like to believe that.

You are nice, I'd be in my window with a baseball bat and a paintball gun filled with frozen paintballs for the next few nights.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 08, 2007....
SR - ooohhh! good idea.  For the record, I carry a modified baseball bat in my car in case I need to correct someone's thinking.  I'm pretty sure I'm not nice.

maybe you're grateful they didn't steal your whole car?  that's what i'd be thinking....

SL - well, there is that.  I guess I've become so laid back that I now refuse to sweat the small stuff.  Life and death issues only, everything else is fixable.  Who'd have thunk a stressball like me would ever get there?!

Heh. I remember stealing gas a long time ago... I won't go into any more details.

Let's just say that gasoline has a distinctive taste and leave it at that (siphoning). I thought that most current cars were siphon-resistant?
  • southerngirl said on May 09, 2007....
You're luck that that's all you lost was gas, which is rather high but when you llook at what's happen to some motorist when there car break down, they lose there cars and life, god forbid but it happen, you should be having and extended praise upliftment, never entering angry.

Uniquely- One time I had gone shopping. I had tp, squirt guns, water balloons, and laundry soap in my car.  I went in to the store and came back and someone had stolen my tp, water balloons, and squirt guns. LOL it was broad daylight in front of the store.  I didn't get mad I was more shocked.  If htey had stolen my laundry soap I probably would have gotten mad.  I laughed about it all day, I kept thinking I hope they needed it worse than I do.  I can see the water guns and balloons, but tp?  Maybe they wanted to tp someones house.

TS - my car is such a basic model that it would be easy to siphon.  I've never tried siphoning, and now I'm "too old" to want to.

SG - My car wasn't broken down, but parked in front of my apartment complex.  I am grateful that they stopped at the gas though.

mom - LOL now that's funny.  I had my window busted out on another car where they took a gym bag.  The joke was on them, since it only had dirty socks and sweats.  I put all of my stuff in the trunk now.  Out of sight, out of mind.

Ironic....that is getting to be a big problem here  where I live...we even had a incident where the person who own the car was stabbed when he came out to see why his dog was barking. I believe if I catch someone and are able to keep them till the police arrive they will have fallen down a couple times.

Pessimisticvaunt - You sound so like me.  I'm the nicest person you'll ever meet, but if you trip one of the couple of buttons that set me off, I'm your worst nightmare.  I'd be willing to bet you have a military background the way you describe your scenario.

All of those great comments, will leave no room for anger.
  • uniquely-ironic said on May 17, 2007....
SG - I don't think I understand what you mean by that.  room for anger?
  • southerngirl said on May 20, 2007....
Uniquely-ironic, I mean when using the term 'no room for anger", that you should have no anger in your heart concerning your gas lost. good luck
