Saturday has rolled around again.  This is the day I usually do my grocery shopping.  I've come to really hate it.  It's become a chore.  I used to enjoy the chance to go shopping for anything.  Somehow, it's lost it's zing.

I've known women that didn't like shopping.  I thought they were crazy!  Lots of men don't like it, I know. Now, I understand.  Maybe it's because I'm older now, but I don't even really enjoy a day at the mall much anymore. I am down to three types of stores that I enjoy as fun outings...bookstores, craft stores, and thrift shops.  Throw in an occasional flea market or craft show and I'm set.

Groceries?  No thanks.  I would love to pass.

How do you feel about shopping?  Is it fun or a chore?

I don't mind grocery shopping. I just hate coming home and putting everything away. I used to enjoy it more, but my husband now accompanies me, and we have very different ways of doing things.

I can't remember the last time I was at the mall. I do a lot of shopping online. Like you, CDub, I love flea markets and craft fairs. They're great places to find inspiration.

CW- I don't mind grocery shopping or trips anywhere for something we need or want. What bothers me is mindless window shopping or cruising a large department store just to see whats there.

I'd just as soon watch a mudhole dry up.

I rarely go shopping... but when i do i really enjoy buying stuffs... groceries are a weekly chore too, what i hate the most is when they ran out of stock of the brand that i like and there is a very long line in the cashier.

i love shopping!!! it's the shopoholic in me!!! i dont know why but sometimes i'm a compulsive buyer!

shopping is just about the only thing i do anymore.....so i enjoy it even if it's just buying groceries....but i have to admitt it's soooo much more enjoyable w/o my kids!
  • boyzmom said on May 05, 2007....
When I don't have to drag the kids through the store, it is pretty fun. I have time to stop and look at things and not just grab the same old brands that are familiar to me. I guess it is more of a chore mostly but I love trying new things!

    Mimi,
I don't like any of the grocery shopping anymore.  Putting it away is also a chore here.  I have very limited storage space for the things I need. I have to get creative.  A lot of it goes to the basement until I need it.

I love flea markets and craft shows for the same reasons.

    beyond,
Watching a mudhole dry up sounds reeeeaaaallll exciting!  :-)  I will go to just look sometimes but not as much as I used to.

    sweet,
Standing in line is sometimes the the longest part of the trip. I also hate the self check-out lines!  I feel like I'm working for the store and putting someone out of a job.

    queen,
You are young!  :-)  That's when shopping was the most fun for me.

    alls,
I must admit that I do enjoy gift shopping.  That's a special occasion kind of treat for me.

    boyz,
I don't have kids, but I'm a label reader.  It takes me forever to buy groceries. :-)  I'm glad you enjoy it sometimes.

  • boyzmom said on May 05, 2007....

I love to read labels but the kids will act up after about 15-20 minutes so I try to hurry but it still takes me an hour to shop for groceries.

  • Eilan said on May 05, 2007....
I like to go to the mall with my mom or my husband, but I have only a handful of stores that I'm interested in.  Usually Border's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Old Navy, and occasionally Bath and Body Works.  I'll walk down to my favorite pretzel stand, and then I'm through.

As for grocery shopping, I've been sending my husband out to do that lately--he's there right now, in fact.  Where I live, Wal-Mart is, unfortunately, one of the only options, and I don't have a lot of patience for the crowds.  When I do the grocery shopping, it's usually at 9:00-10:00 in the evening.

CW....shopping? You mean that pleasurable strolling thru stores waiting for the right item to call your name and then trying it on and and pick the one that fits just right and buying it?

Are you talking about that? If so, its a long time i dont indulge in this kind of shopping.....no money ...i have to stick to the basic and when you stick to the basic no shopping is fun anymore....its just a chore you have to check out of the list. Only problem...my daughter LOVES going to the mall ....so i have to go with her once in a while...and believe me..... she can make you buy even the air if you are not careful...LOL...

Grocery though.....i still like it....i like find new foods in old aisles, i like picking the rigth produce, and reading labels and even compare prices....its the foodie in me, i guess...i envision succulent meals i could do with this or that item...but at the end my cart is always full with the same items...

But last day, for example, i found that Albertson carries a geat dry lentil soup made from one region of my country..with the genuine ingedients and at a very reaesonable price. Naturally down went into the cart...

I like having this kind of surprises...lol...along with having the manager of the above mentioned store inviting me for a coffee.....eh eh eh ...the perks of grocery shopping ...lol....

I like grocery shopping, to be honest, because I'm such a foodie that I love checking out the deli and cheese sections of all our grocery stores. I also like the specialty food stores in the area.

I'm not a fan of malls though. I never really have been since high school.

I love going to craft fairs and craft stores; I like thrift stores too, especially the furniture sections in them. And I love antique stores.
  • tbs230 said on May 05, 2007....
I hate malls, ugh! I don't like shopping. I tend to look for what I want online, so I know exactly what I'm getting. I can't do long lines, and the continuous back and forth of looking for something.

I'm a list master. Grocery list, clothing list, shoe list. I need to know what I'm getting before I leave my house.

I am a huge disappointment to my mother in this area. That lady can spend hours looking for the right thing. I usually stay home, and ohh and ahh when she comes back with a zillion things.
  • skald said on May 05, 2007....
It´s just my job to shop for the family, nothing else. Use to be fun but now it is neither fun nor unpleasant.
  • CreativeWoman said on May 05, 2007....
    boyz,
I'm sure having the little guys with you makes big difference.

    Eilan,
I've done the night time shopping too.  It is less crowded.  I'm just not crazy about spending my time before bed putting away groceries.  I know that sounds silly, but that's me.  I love Borders.  That's one of the stores I can browse in for hours. :-)

    Zayda,
It sounds like you have some nice grocery stores to choose from.  Here, I only have a couple with the Wal-Mart Super Center usually being the cheaper of the two.

At my last trip to a thrift shop I found a designer suit with the tags still on it and paid only $6 for it.  I wore it for Easter.

    tbs,
I shop from a list too.  My mother is also a shopper.  Recently I took her and a family friend to the Wal-Mart here.  Those ladies shopped in that place for three hours!  I think they tried on every pair of shoes in their respective sizes.  :-)  At least they had a good time.

    skald,
    Shopping is my job too.

I love shopping at antique/consignment stores because everything is so beautiful and fascinating. I dislike grocery shopping because it is hard to be a good girl and get the healthy stuff! I use to like going to the mall, but not so much anymore. Everything is the same wherever you go. I like variety. This week I had the most fun because I went shopping at the arts & crafts faire on my university campus. Oh and I cannot wait for my next farmer's market back at home!!
  • CreativeWoman said on May 05, 2007....
    fly,
I'm always looking for a bargain too.

    Kay,
I like those antique and consignment shops too once in a while.  I have been trying really hard to only bring healthy stuff into the house from the grocery store.  I think I'm starting to do pretty well.  I love fresh tomatoes from farmers markets. :-)

honestly, i kinda enjoy shopping. i know, i know, it isn't "cool" to be a guy and enjoy shopping, but i do. what the hell, if i can't be honest about myself online where most of you guys will never actually meet me, what's the point? :>

i sorta resent grocery shopping, but that's b/c it's an obligation. however, like zayda, as a foodie, i do find something fun in those departments. :>

but you know what i really love? shopping with my wife for clothes or shoes for her. i like finding something she likes and would never let herself buy and buying it. two weekends ago i actually had to persuade her to buy 4 pairs of shoes (relax, it was payless). and i love doing this, b/c i know that she normally wouldn't let herself buy them if she was alone.

hm...she might need a new summer dress... :>

Always fun any time, especially reading the labels on new items to see if I should switch brands or something.
  • hunter_boyce_chandler said on May 06, 2007....

I love my wife. So I tolerate shopping for clothes.  I try to sound interested and spend my time looking for somewhere to sit down when she trys on everything in the damn store.  I think she's pretty cute when she spins in front of a mirror and asks me what I think.

Groceries are my deal because I am the cook for our family.  She doesn't like to go there but tolerates it because she loves me.

We both shop malls, craft stores, hardware stores, flea markets, art galeries and book stores.  For some unknown reason we both can spend hours in a stationary store, and buy nothing.

    Kay,
Can't really beat a garden fresh tomato!

    ed,
It sounds like you spoil your wife.  :-)  It's nice you enjoy shopping with her.

    Bronx,
I always read labels too.  Sometimes I think you need to be a chemist to understand them though.  :-)

    HBC,
It sounds like you and your wife balance each other well.  That's what love is all about.  :-)

I like grocery shopping when I am on my own but when I have the kidlets with me it tends to be a bit of a nightmare, but clothes shopping of any kind is a far, far worse torture.
  • Zayda said on May 06, 2007....
Alyss---I agree; grocery shopping is kind of a nightware with child in tow, and I only have one in tow. He of course gets bored but also wants all those sugary foods that are specifically packaged to attract the attention of kids. So, as good as he is, it can be a battle some days.
  • CreativeWoman said on May 06, 2007....
    Alyss,
I know that my mom had three of us in tow.  We drove her crazy some days in the grocery store.

    Zayda,
I've only ever had nieces and nephews in tow.  I, of course, was somewhat of a softie within limits.
