How often do you look in the fridge and say there is nothing good there, even though your fridge is full of food.

How often did your kids do the same and say mum why don't you ever have anything good to eat.
How often did you do the same as a kid.?

I have never actually said that, but I could look at a full fridge and over flowing pantry and still not find anything I 'wanted' to eat.   My kids always complained that there was nothing good to eat in the house, usually that was a prelude to "Dad, let's go to McDonalds" or "Dad, lets order pizza"  or "Dad, don't you feel like Chinese tonight?"   To which I would usually say, just as soon as you clean your rooms, mow the lawn and wash the car.  They quickly found a snack to carry them over til dinner.

As  kid I rarely dared complain to my mom about much of anything, and if I did she would tell me to open my eyes.

Rightwinqwizard. lol. I like that, let them clean their rooms or do some taks first and suddenly they find some snack. Yes, I did not complain either at home I would not have dared and besides I did not have much interest in food until I was an adult. ♥♥

even with a fully-stocked refrigerator and pantry, i can often have that exact same reaction, too, and usually it happens when the mrs and i are trying to figure out what to have for dinner. :>

I did this all the time. Still do actually. This would be the conversation:

Mom: So, did you eat today?
    Me: No. I'm starving too.
    Mom: Why, TBS?
Me: There's nothing to eat mommy.
Mom: The freezer is full, you couldn't make something to eat?
Me (incredulous): Make something? I don't want to cook. I think it's time to go grocery shopping.
Mom: I'm not buying anything. Obviously you weren't hungry, or you would have gotten out of bed and made something to eat.
    Me: But...
    Mom walks away.

This happened at least once a week. I always wondered why she asked me if she knew what I was going to say. Mothers, they just can't help themselves.

skald....I have a teenage son and our house is the gather point for all of the teenagers in the neighborhood ...there is nothing in the fridge.....lol

Pessimist. That made me really laugh out loud. lol.
  • rightwingwizard said on May 05, 2007....
pessimist:  I had to struggle with the same situation for about five years.  I had to grocery shop two or three times a week.  I think I went through an average of 20 gallons of milk a week, not to mention all the juice, soda and coffee.   Every time I prepared a meal I had to make enough to feed at least a dozen hungry teens in addition to my own.  The best period of my life!  Loved every minute of it.

That may explain my resistance to ordering in or going out to eat.
