Does everyone remember when a hissy fit was thrown regarding Pelosi's trip to syria? Where are the hysterics onabout Haliburton doing business with Iran?

That damned liberal media and intellectually honest neo cons.

Did Cheney go?  If he or anybody directly involved in US politics went I fail to see the comparison.  (Though its still wrong) Halliburton doesn't represent the US government in any true way.

they provide vital national security while doing business with an enemy. Pelosi isn't getting money from syria, haliburton is. Haliburton is also getting no big national security contracts.
  • bloc said on May 03, 2007....
wow, lot's of typos in that last comment. "no big" should be "no bid".

I agree that it is wrong, I'll even go ahead and call it treasonous.  US companies shouldn't be doing bussiness (particlarly arms bussiness) with our enemies (unless there is say a Russian Empire we're more worried about) they still don't represent the US politically and thus need to be handled differently.

Nancy Pelosi was wrong to act like the Secretary of State.  Haliburton is wrong to do business with Iran.  The Bush administration's awarding of huge government contracts to Haliburton knowing Cheney has close ties with them was wrong.  This administration has done so many things wrong it is pathetic.  I now believe G. Bush should be impeached and removed from office.  I am not going into a laundry list of all of his crimes, they are far too many to mention.  I know he will not be impeached, let alone removed, but it made my day to publically state it.
  • bloc said on May 03, 2007....
the problem with impeaching him is that cheney would become president
  • SeanRenaud said on May 03, 2007....
I know its never been done but can't you impeach them both, at the same time if necessary?

And what other company could do what Haliburton does, they are rather monstrous.  With or without Cheney they likely would have gotten at least 90% of the contracts that they got.

"And what other company could do what Haliburton does, they are rather monstrous.  With or without Cheney they likely would have gotten at least 90% of the contracts that they got."

People say this, but I think it's bs. How do you know that?
  • SeanRenaud said on May 03, 2007....
Because no other single company has the resources to provide it. Its like saying Wal-Mart wouldn't get a contract.

The bottom line is without a crystalball we'll never KNOW this one for sure.

"Because no other single company has the resources to provide it"

Provide what, and could multiple companies provide the many various things?

Again, how do you know that no other companies can. I'm calling bs.

Half an hour of googling later, it's difficult to find what precisely Halliburton provides in addition to oil related things so until/unless I can find out what they do I concede.
  • bloc said on May 03, 2007....
I can tell you some of the things they did for us in Bosnia. They ran our power generators (we have people in the army that can do that). They cooked our food (we have cooks in the army). They cut our hair and washed our clothes.

I could go on and on. Many of the things they do are not only trivial, but are specifically done by people in the army.

Let's just see what comes out of it. It may be necessary to get Syria on board to bring an end to the occupation of the Palestinians.  There are some serious issues on both sides.  The issue of the status of the Golan Heights must be resolved and there were secret discussions between the Israeli government and Syrian military leaders, but Israel needed some security guarantees including the need for a NATO/U.N. buffer zone and a timeline of four years for withdrawal.

She may be engaging in a diplomatic mission on behalf the Israeli government, since as you know, they do not have the best relations with Syria.  It could lead up to some negotiations over the matter.  I think Jordan and Turkey will have to be on board to get the ball rolling this time.  Iraq is done and Iran deserves to have its nuclear butt kicked when the time comes.
