Bronx's tags:

I don't quite mean your actual home address, since we are all blogging anonymously in cyberspace.

I am referring to your geographical, general location, compass address.

In your country, where are you located? Just curious because I've just now realized that I've never really lived in the Northern part of any country I've been to, except in my childhood! Strange to me somehow to observe that now.

SO, DO YOU LIVE IN THE NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST, OR CENTRAL REGIONS OR STATES?

IS THERE A MORE SPECIFIC NAME FOR THE AREA OR REGION YOU LIVE IN?

DO YOU KNOW THE HISTORY BEHIND THE NAME?

bronx- I've mentioned in other blogs that I spend my time in the southern New Mexico- west Texas area, primarily El Paso.

Originally, El Paso was known as "El Paso Del Norte", or the Pass of the North.

I think the amount of snow fall was the main parameter used.

Bronx - That overpass thing isn't a problem unless you're going north of Oakland (east bay)  No problem for me on the peninsula.  Will be a problem getting the kids home to the Napa Valley (north bay), but so far everyone is being patient.

Traffic in general is hellacious, no need to add to the misery with the broken overpass.

So yeah, if you see the underscore, then you'll know that I'm not who you know, but someone else. I live in Central California. I am one hour northeast of Bakersfield (meryle haggard, buck owens). Nothing special. It's a small town called Kernville. It's actually in a lot of traveling brochures and people from all over come here. Weird! But it really is beautiful. It used to be called Whiskey Flat but it was changed to a more respectable name later on.

I live in:   Upstate New York - Anything outside the five boroughs of 'the City'
Western New York - Anything West of the Hudson River
The Southern Tier - The five western most counties bordering PA.
The Grape Belt - The lake plain area between Buffalo NY  &
                    Cleveland OH

'the City' = New York City of course, don't be silly.   I lived in the Chicago area for a few years and it took my friends quite some time to understand that when I said I was going to 'the City' I meant New York, not Chicago.  They didn't like it much when I said "Look at it this way, There is New York City and everything else is the suburbs."

Right now I live in Israel where I am an immigrant. I was born in Hungary, Budapest - East Europe that is - and moved here about 13 years ago. Wow, was it really that long ago...? Anyway, in Israel I was moving from one city to another, I guess looking for myself, looking for a place I can call home. Than I've had a baby which unfortunatelly came with his father, and we all moved to the USA, Florida. I've spent there almost 6 years, and I can honestly say that that is the only place I feel home at. About a year and a half ago my son and I moved back to Israel, and as of right now we live in a city called Rishon Letzion. It means : The Firts One to be a Cionite. Hmmm. It is about 30 seconds away from Tel Aviv by car so it's the central area of the country and still is a big city in Israeli measurements. I do not feel home here but it's getting better. I still want to get back to Florida, where I used to live. I don't know if that is possible thou. Ask me next year, and we'll see.

Hi Bronx, I am a Londoner, now living on the outskirts in Enfield, Middlesex, UK.

Enfield is the home of many British rifles going back to 1804 and including the Lee-Enfield.  There were several factories around here that built munitions and bombs during WWII and was also the site of the Elizabethan Enfield Palace.
  • mousenphonic said on May 03, 2007....

I live in Rustenburg, North West, South Africa.  The town got it's name from a group of people in the 1800's (I think) called the "Voortrekkers" who were immigrating up Africa from the Cape in search of their own land.  "Rus" means to rest (They rested here where the city is located today) "ten" is short for "teen" which means against and "burg" is an old term for mountain (our city has the most beautifull mountains over shadowing us in the West) In other words I basically live in a city called "Resting against mountain"

    Hope that makes sense. :D

This region was discovered and originally populated by American Indians. When they came upon the lake, they noticed how blue the water was. So they named it Tahoe, which means "Lake of the Sky"-isn't that pretty?

    Hi'
I live in England in a small village called Barlow (means Barley after the crops that used to be grown here). Barlow is in North Yorkshire, about 17 miles away from York (In Roman times York was called Eboracum). Yorkshire means Shire of York! My position is, Latitude 53 degrees, 45 minutes North. Longitude 1 degree 1 minute 3o seconds West and 17 feet above sea level, unless I'm upstairs then you can add another 12 feet or so lol. Another snippet of useless information is, apparently it's still legal to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow from the top of the wall that surrounds York. I wouldn't like to test that loophole though!!

I just must be selective in my responses, so bear with me - and thanks very much for coming in and sharing!

    Some trivia:

Did you know that the whole of cosmopolitan New York was bought for just $24 worth of trinkets from the Indians?

The US is generally divided into 6 major regions, plus Alaska and Hawaii - NORTH EAST, SOUTH EAST, CENTRAL BASIN, GREAT PLAINS, MOUNTAINS & DESERTS, AND COAST VALLEYS.

Alaska has the highest number of rape cases in the US, especially unreported ones!

The Coast Valley region stretches from Bakersfield to Seattle.

The Central Basin region contains the Corn Belt, as well as being home to the confluence of the mighty rivers - Missouri, Mississippi, and Ohio rivers.

The imaginary 50cm Rainfall Line separates the Great Plains from the Central Basin region and literally divides the US in two!
