Just a bit curious about what you do and give on Mother's Day. Does it mean anything special to you and how do you observe this Mothering Sunday, as it was originally called?

It comes up next Sunday and I was just wondering about it, reliving the old memories of  Church Service followed by great food in a peaceful atmosphere at home.....

I am thinking of Adobe Photoshop's suggestion right now

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK AND WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO OR GIVE ON THAT DAY?

becase my wife & i live close enough to our respective parents, we celebrate all holidays with both households. it's tricky due to the timing and it's a compromise that leaves no one happy, which i understand is the mark of a good compromise. :>

SW: haha - that's so true about a compromise, never heard it put quite like that before!

In the end, all sides get compromised. Heehee.

BTW, how do you manage that - you visit both households or they come over?

bronx- I tend to agree with meshalinia. Its the second Sunday in May here which is May 13th.

At any rate, I'm taking my wife out to eat and she will be given a $100.00 gift certificate to Bath and Body Works, her favorite store in the galaxy. I become an instant hero when I do this.

bronx: visit both households, yes. usually, her parents first, then mine.

I won't be getting my mother anything, or calling.  She sued me for my 1/2 of my house while I was going through my divorce because she thought I was so stressed that I would just give it to her.  She lost.  She also lost a daughter.

I know that sounds extreme, but I had to represent myself in court and cross examine my mother and all my aunts and uncles.  It cost me thousands of dollars that I didn't have.  It DID stress me out to the point of insomnia and depression for over 6 months.

I bought my grandmother's house while married, and let her live there for free.  When she saw that it would have to be sold to finance my divorce, she sued me.  I do not consider her my mother anymore.

Mesh: Thanks. You're so sharp - here's my humble prize for you.

FYI, perhaps I was just getting the hell out over here wishing these guys could have it earlier this year. ; p

beyond: wow - that's quite a whopper of a treat. Smart move, IMHO.

No guessing your 'fringe benefits' would be greatly enhanced afterwards, among other things!
  • Bronx said on Apr 30, 2007....
SW: oh. That's quite some 'competition' going on there.
  • Bronx said on Apr 30, 2007....
SL: that's so wonderful - but of course, such thoughtfulness comes naturally to do you!

Sounds like quite a full and fulfilling day, too!
  • Bronx said on Apr 30, 2007....
pessi: well, a phone call and roses is not bad, considering the distance, as you said.

In college, I 'lived' on AT&T  'opportunity calling' calls home for 5  full years - yet they still 'shafted' me, especially since they scrapped all my call credits before I could redeem them on 'frequent flyer' deals. Haha.

U-I: hi. I am so sorry you fell out with your Mum in this way.

Believe me, I can feel your pain - I've been in court for almost three years now trying to recover a business debt from a company.

My brother is my lawyer but I know what it's costing me - luckily, the judge seems to believe my case is being delayed unnecessarily and has set a firm date for the resolution.

Once again, I'm sorry and hope that one day you'll forgive her.
