short version: no, seriously: bono and the edge are writing music & lyrics for a musical adaptation of spider-man. evidently, this will be the first time a marvel comics character has appeared on broadway—which implies that it isn’t the first superhero to appear on broadway. i find that thought mildly weird all by itself. long version here.

commentary: OK, does anybody besides me remember when u2 made political music (e.g., sunday, bloody sunday? i haven’t listened to their recent stuff since what, rattle & hum i think, but i still don’t remember thinking that there was a single political track on that album. and while certainly bono & the edge are free to pursue whatever they like, i do kind of wish they’d return to their roots. i guess they figure that if phil collins can write disney music, why not them?

anyway…having said all of that, i just can’t see a musical coming from the story of spider-man. perhaps their artistic vision is simply broader than mine?

    The Edge...LEGEND!

Ed, I thought about you when I saw a Halmark commercial for Theme Song Birthday cards (they play the song when you open the card)!  It was the Star Wars theme song, lol!

Returning to their roots is most definitely necessary, but doing something commercial once in awhile is ok too, as long as it doesn't become the be-all, end-all of their music.

    I hate Spiderman...

I can't believe that broadway would have spiderman as a musical. That's just wierd...is it even posible? How can there be a musical about spiderman? The movies are good, but a guy on stage in a spider costume singing? That's another story...LOL

I hate Spiderman... not comics. Its a memory thing... seeing Spiderman reminds be of an ex who shredded my heart and handed it back to me... *sigh*. Its actually a pretty good character and story (she admits begrudgingly)... but, like certain songs on the radio, I can't think of Spiderman without thinking about HER... :-(
