What's your reaction? Revulsion, a smirk of derision, pity, understanding, laughter, anything....

Surely, not indifference? Just as most girls 'swear' they can't go out with a guy who habitually pulls his trousers up to his navel, many people just feel the urge to " ...chase them crazy bald heads ....right out ...out of town...", as Bob Marley so uniquely put it!

i generally don't react: it's sometimes a deliberate choice, as it is in the case of one of my friends.

  • momsrock said on Apr 22, 2007....
I have no reaction either. I have alopecia areata and occasionally lose my hair. I've had a lot of people in my life with cancer that have lost their hair and my husband was bald before he was 30. I think it looks great on my husband, although I did insist he remove his earring because he looked like mr. clean.
  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
SW: yes, I can see how that can be a problem.

I seem to be balding myself, but the hair won't just disappear entirely - so I have these 'two moons'  area  on top of my head reminding me of  what the  future  plans for me!

  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
momsrock: That's funny - about Mr. Clean- but it's so sad when the hair loss starts and there is no immediate explanation for it or anything that could be done to significantly retard it.

Yes that Telly Savalas / Yul Bryner look is great to see - minus the earrings, of course!
  • queenparanoia said on Apr 22, 2007....
with the exception of britney spears. i think having a bald head head is so cool...

momsrock: mr clean? LOL that's funny and you know what he's sexy!!! LOL

My grandfather has been bald as long as even my Mom can remember, and I shave my head regularly, so, I kind of just pass it off. Indifference indeed. And one of the females I went to AIT with has Alopecia, she just stays bald. Some fuzzy stuff, but really, no hair. Not even eyebrows.
  • Zayda said on Apr 22, 2007....
Personally, I think bald can be very sexy.

But as Silver said, I don't react one way or the other. With some people, baldness is a choice, with others, it's genetic, and with others still it may be the result of an illness and treatment for that illness.
  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
Queen: I so agree with you - Britney's gives her a certain 'alien' or humanoid look!
  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
    Al'Thor: Hi.

    WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

It's such a pity when there's nothing one can do to get back a full head of hair.

Someone once suggested a hair re-growth formulation - doesn't work, just makes the balding patch very shiny and oily, IMHO.
  • gingersoul said on Apr 22, 2007....

Bronx... it all depends by who carries the condition of being bald. And the reason of the baldness..

I found lots of bald men damn sexy, for example.

And i might think "poor baby" if i see a kid bald for their cancer...

There is no baldness "per se"....

But i noticed that being bald now has become the next cool thing to do for lots of men....

I suggested my ex husband to shave completely when he started to complain about a small spot on top of his head: he did it and i can assure you he was absolutely sexy ..i couldn't stop caressing his head......i was almost sorry when he let his hair regrow....;-)

Why dont you try and go bald? You never know what kin of reactions you might induce.....:-)...

  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
    Zayda: Hi.

Yes, I agree with you - it's a pity that some people still seem to associate old age with generally  unrelated characteristics and attributes, such as aging, wealth, suffering, even sexual prowess, etc.
  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
Ginger: Hi. Yes, 'baldness' or a shaved head is sexy - presents a face as-is, honestly.

However, some friends and relatives feel it can also give that 'prisoner look', especially when the 'baldy' is annoyed or frowning!

Tried it once though but had to scrap the idea after a while - too many head rubs and invitations for greasing up the scalp a little, etc.

One great thing though about a clean shaven head - no need to worry about tussled hair or the need for a comb while dressing up or after lovemaking! ;  > {>

One of the most important people in my life is bald, and not by choice, he has a condition where he doesn't grow hair.  When people first see him, they know he's a drummer, but they think "punk" and other bad things.  His beard adds to this misconception (it's almost like ZZ Top).  But he is one of the sweetest people I know and so devoted to God. which amazes people.
  • missunderstood1162 said on Apr 22, 2007....
BALD is good.  LOL.  My husband is bald and really honest to god it doesn't matter.  I don't love him for whether he has hair or not...it's just another place for me to kiss him.  It's a whole lot easier for me to massage his forehead and aching temples when there is no hair in the way.  I think many bald men are very attractive.

But for me it's personality first anyhow.
  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
rmuxagirl: welcome back to my blog - long time, if my my memory serves me right.

Yes, a ZZ Top without the hair and hat would probably strike some people as odd and suspicious - strange was stereotyping can do, isn't it?

Just goes to show that first impressions don't always tell us everything.

In this regard, I recall one of the traits of James Bond - he always waited to see what a girl looked like in a skirt before deciding on how to score her overall beauty!

    Smart chap, IMHO.
  • Bronx said on Apr 22, 2007....
miss: hi, that's a very good point - personality first!

In one of the in-class college discussions with  our prof., he  was of the view that  we should not  marry  for  beauty alone  because  when it goes  with  aging or an  unfortunate accident,  the  love too  may follow suit  or be sorely tested!

Such words of wisdom should be on marble, I think.
  • genalonewolf said on Apr 22, 2007....
Being bald whether it on purpose or not is just fine with me. UNLESS you are my g/f exhusband. He shaved his head the other day and man I have to tell ya he looks an awful lot like Lex Luther. Thats funny shit right there!
  • blastfromthepast said on Apr 22, 2007....
I think bald is sexy, too!  I once dated a guy who wore a toupee.  The only problem with it was that it was probably like wearing a fur hat in the summer.  At least he didn't try to swoop whatever hair he did have from one side of his head to the other in order to cover up the fact that he was balding!  If that isn't putting the spotlight right on the area, I don't know what is.

As for Britney Spears, she's had a screw loose for quite some time now.  The fact that she's chumming around with that twit Paris Hilton tells me all I need to know.
  • wombat said on Apr 22, 2007....
My hubby is "balding" and what he has left is all silvery and soft.  I think bald is sexy on a man as long as he is also a mature, decent man.  It's the whole package I'm interested in.!

  • princessbitch65 said on Apr 22, 2007....
If the guy's head looks good, I think " that is sexy" but if their head looks weird, then I think," You're better off leaving some hair!" Not every head is made for the bald look, and not every head is made for the long hair look ( I saw a really scary looking guy with long hair today,,eeewww!).
  • youngblood said on Apr 22, 2007....
My old grade 8 french/history/gym/geography teacher Mr. Ferron, who was bald, reminded everyone of Mr. Clean, always wore shorts, no matter what time of the year (he's from Quebec), and was most famously quoted for crossing his arms and saying "Non!"
  • hotaka said on Apr 22, 2007....
Completely bald? Possibly a fashion statement or making the best of it. Partially bald? Glad I am only 0.8% of the way there.
  • MissMimi said on Apr 22, 2007....
My son has been shaving his head completely off and on for several years. when he's bald and has a goatee, he looks very handsome. I have a friend who, upon seeing his picture, said, "That's your son? Holy cow, he's hot!" That was kinda weird, but he does look good that way. It makes him look like a tough guy because he's big: 6'1" and 250 lbs. But he is really such a pussycat.
  • boyzmom said on Apr 22, 2007....

It would really depend on how the person looked over-all. If the person was bald by choice and wanted to show off some funky looking tattoos on his neck and head, then I would probably be scared of him.

I considered shaving my head because of a scalp condition that sometimes requires me to put cream on it and I hate that getting in my hair and making my hair oily. I would look kind of funny without any hair though. My ex is balding and shaves his head and it looks good on him and my son asks if he could shave his head and it would probably look good on him but for now I tell him I want him to have some hair so he doesn't get sunburned on his scalp.

When a person is balding and it is not by choice, I approach it as being no big deal, because after all it is just hair. I would gladly give up my hair if it would make them feel better.

  • botoni said on Apr 22, 2007....
I look in the mirror and think: "I m glad I shaved the fringe off." Strangely I m often told I look younger with my head shaved and get comments about it being sexy. It works for me.
  • wombat said on Apr 22, 2007....
Cool.  Works for me, too.  But tell me, how does one shave their head?  With what kind of razor?  With what kind of foam?  This is a process I would like to see sometime.
  • botoni said on Apr 22, 2007....
Wombie.....My method is this....I go to a barber if my hair has any length at all....1/4 inch maybe, and have it removed with the typical sheers as close as possible. After that I shave my head daily just as I would my face. A tip.....try using hand cream rather than shaving lather....works better and leaves your head smooth to beat!
  • wombat said on Apr 22, 2007....
botoni:  I will try it on my legs--the hand cream, I mean.  Will have to ask hubby about the " leaves your head smooth to beat, thing....."   Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the sexiest men have blad heads. I just can't remember their names now.  Some people have nicely shaped heads and it looks good.  Anyone remember 'Star Trek" the movie?  The girl on there had a bald head and I thought she was beautiful.  I think it would be great to have a man with a bald head so I could rub it and make a wish.

A bald head will cause me to look at the rest of the man. Generally, I go through my day not paying attention to the bodies that flow along.

  • tuktukon said on Apr 23, 2007....
Several years ago, I went bald.  My teammates followed
suit, except for our center who refused to have his head
bald, as he was hiding an ugly scar.   We were a basketball
team. and we won  the collegiate  basketball  championship
    on a bald note.

What comes to my mind when I see a bald person?   I  see
speed,  desire to excell  and  coolness  under pressure

blast: I agree a toupee has to be an idea to be scrapped - I remember how shocked I was to find out that Sean Connery wore one as James Bond!

My first thought was, 'that was good acting' - then, 'nah, just an old guy, and probably grumpy too!'

    BTW, WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

As for Britney and Paris H - well, they are of the same feather, and the cash is flowing still!
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....

Pssst.....hope any rowdy young 'skinhead' out there is reading this!
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....
princessb: great point there - if the bald fits the head, wear it; if no hair on the head, too bad?
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....
youngb: that's funny - I can just imagine him with arms at akimbo during gym class with all eyes on him and him going, 'Look, kids....no hair!' Heehee.

hotaka: still with a full head of hair, eh? Lucky you!

MissMimi: don't mean to alarm you, but wait till that 'pussycat' grows a mustache and hears more people tell him he's 'hot' - he may just become just a little too hot to handle, IMHO.

  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....
boyzmom: give up your 'crowning glory' just to make someone else feel better? Truly, you're such a sweetheart - and, IMHO, your heart's in the right place!

botoni: yes, a shaved head, like a new haircut, generally makes one look younger - something about the hair's need for its daily food ration going to the skin instead, I guess!

wombat: you're very lucky - laughing yourself to sleep is probably the best medicine for insomnia, I think!

mom: careful now...he could be making his own wish while you rubbed him - probably rubbing his hands together in great expectations, too! Haha.
You're right, the bald headed girl was quite a pretty neat sight!
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....

No, no....you don't have to answer that!
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....
LG: Yes, a bald head is eye-catching!

I am guessing someone would have to really stand out from the crowd for you to notice him/her.

I'm very impressed - my wife is like that, unlike me, who tends to see a 'silent story' everywhere!

My mind just seems to imbibe patterns as I move along. Well, now the cat's out of the bag!
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....
tuktukon: thanks for sharing that delightful anecdote!

    BTW, WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

Yes, I can see how going hairless can give one a feeling of not being unfettered or held back in anyway!

That would definitely leave someone more focused, not distracted by a stray lock or shock falling out of place, and striving to achieve something at hand, or in hand, totally!

Thanks again, for the great insight.
  • Bronx said on Apr 23, 2007....

Bronx~ On an average day I see about two hundred people. That's work, school, grocery shopping, gas station average day for anyone. About two hundred people. Every day.
Yes. Someone has to stand out dramatically to hold my attention.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Apr 23, 2007....
I don't really have a feeling one way or the other about bald heads.  I do have a strong revulsion for comb overs and swirly dos.  I also don't care for the little ring of hair that men who are bald on top groom obsessively.  I'm more tuned into a person's face than the top of their head.
  • Bronx said on Apr 24, 2007....

U-I: I agree with you - the face is far more important!

I tend to give it to the eyes more often than the noses and mouths - my attention, that is.

What about you? What do you focus on in a face? Anything in particular - I'm just curious?
  • mom said on Apr 24, 2007....
Bronx- LOL, I hadn't considered that, I was thinking more along the lines of a troll doll.  We used to rub their bellies and make a wish. LOL  I guess I won't be rubbing any bald guys head.
  • boyzmom said on Apr 24, 2007....
    Rubbing bellies could be fun.
  • boyzmom said on Apr 24, 2007....
I once knew an annoying shaved-headed guy when I was in school. We had some class together and he kept sitting next to me and touching my thighs, I once was told to move to the other side of the room and was very humiliated because I was doing nothing wrong, it was him. So he told me he hated when people rubbed his head and called him "shorty". I did exactly that and he was very mad for a long time. I felt guilty that I did the meanest thing possible to get him to leave me alone and I realized how rude that was so I will not do that again.
  • mom said on Apr 24, 2007....
Boyz- LOL I think it was great.  He was being rude first and wouldn't stop so you just gotta pull out the big guns
  • boyzmom said on Apr 24, 2007....
Yeah, there's been other short annoying bald guys in my life (my ex for one) and I wished I wasn't so hesitant to be that mean to them. I was tempted to pull out the big guns more than once though, I guess the restraining orders and divorce papers count as pretty big guns.
  • mom said on Apr 24, 2007....

mom: sorry, didn't mean to scare you off that little treat!

boyzmom: rubbing bellies? That could be considered foreplay in some quarters!
