The Old Testament says that man has dominion over the rest of creation. Pslam 8 says that man is a little lower than angels and the ruler over the rest of the natural world.

This, to me, sounds like ego. A man's ego. Not only does man have dominion over the animals and such, but over women. The Bible is very clear that a woman is to submit to her husband. He is to treat her well, which is the hook used to rationalize sexism, but ultimately she is to submit to him.

These are some of the problems I have with Christianity and The Bible. It seems to me that writings such as the ones linked too above are the result of a ego and the cultural values of the times and not the inspired word of God.

Okay so when I got married, I swore the part of obeying your husband etc would be taken out of our vows...LOL Then a preacher gave me a better explanation of what it means. Maybe if I tell you how I took it, it might help, because trust me I am totally with you on why people have such a problem with Christianity and the Bible. I was made to believe that basically it meant to understand and respect what your husband asked for and wanted. Now TRUST ME-this probably only works if your married to a half way decent person anyways. LMAO For example-My husband likes me to dress sexy-but only when he is here. NO men at the house when he is gone. Have an idea of what we will be eating when he gets home ( He doesnt even care if its order out Pizza..lol), love and take care of the children, and to have lots of sex and cuddle time for him. These are my husbands "LAWS" so to speak. Because I love him, respect him and feel that what he asks is pretty simple. I have no problem "obeying" him. But remember now these were discussed before we got married and mostly in practice while dating. I believe in Jesus-I call myself Christian. But believe me I understand where you are coming from as often times I look at people who say they are Christians and tell myself-You are the reason people think we are so hypocrytical- YOu preach on thing and practice something else- You judge others and are unforgiving. My take on Christianity is to be kind to others, respect them and live an honest life. Heck-Keep it simple :) Good luck to you

EXACTLY!!! I was ahousewife for 4 years and man did it ever bite the big one, I had no financial freedom, no freedom at all actually, and my husband (ex husband) seemed to think that because he was the "man" he didn't have to do ANYTHING when he got home from work (when he worked that is). so yes you're right it's sexist, and I think people forget that the bible was written in a time when women were considered "lesser" than men, they were uneducated, unappreciated and oppressed, that's why there were feminists! So, HA!! to you bible thumpers! Steph

I believe the Bible is the word of God, regardless of whether you agree with it or not. I don't like that you can't divorce for emotional abuse, but it doesn't mean it is not the word of God.

Submission is not a leash. In a true Christian marriage there is respect, communication and godly love that typical men/women can't have. Submission in a Christian marriage is not slavery. And when you have a union formed by God, a partner chosen by God, you have absolutely nothing to worry about when it comes to submission.

You can't understand an entire puzzle, but examining one piece. It is when it all comes together that the big picture makes sense.

    I hope this helps. :)

First of all, I respect everyone's convictions. I AM a bible thumper, and I understand that some women feel strongly led to submit becasue of how they were raised or who first taught them the bible. That being said, the Bible is used to perpetuate sexism, racism, violence, and everything else anyone who wants to do something terrible and knows how to read could ever want to perpetuate. In my OPINION, it is a mistheology to use the Bible this way. If you are going to read every word, old and new testimate, as perfect, then you had better be a vegetarian -in Genesis it says that God only gave plants as food right before he put Adam in authority over Eve-. Truly, God never put all women under the dominion of men. But the entire bible was written during a time when sexism AND slavery were accepted. According to the ALLEGORY in the story of the fall of man, God put one man-Adam-over one women -Eve. If you are sexist, this sounds like a resounding invitation for the opression of women, as it did for Paul. Christians should follow CHRIST. Jesus was not sexist. God did not use a man at all to bring Jesus into the world. It was between God and a woman. Jesus was killed by men, and the first people that he revealed himself to were women who then ran to tell the disciples who didn't believe them, probably due to their sexism. The authors of the bible justified their way of living because they believed it was right. And it worked for their culture. It doesn't work for ours and Jesus never said it had to. And i don't care what anyone says. A marriage works when both partners submit equally. Being you husbands playtoy when he gets home from work is not what God wants from your life. If that were the case, he would have made women huge silent vaginas.
