Why have the worldwide media felt is was a good idea to broadcast that video that Cho Seung-hui sent to NBC? Have they all lost their collective minds? As a TV exec, do you have to remove your brain before you go to work in the morning?

Or is it me? Am I the only one that thinks broadcasting what this person has to say serves no purpose other than to glorify what he has done? How many similarly disturbed young people will see this video and pictures and think “Hey, I’ll get on TV if I do what he did?”

Am I the only one who thinks giving this person his fifteen minutes – even if they are posthumous, is mad? Am I the only one who thinks that it is distasteful and insensitive in the extreme to broadcast this video? How exactly do the families of those left behind feel about this – and no, that’s not a request for the media to seek them out and ask them, please, for the love of god, leave them to their private grief.

I have not seen this video, and I have no wish to. I will not be clicking on the many links on the internet that point to it, and if it is shown on the news this evening, I shall be changing the channel. Would this have been shown five years ago? Ten? Fifteen? Have we really sunk so low? The many TV execs around the world that have made the decision to show this thing ought, today, to be ashamed of themselves.

I think there is a fine line between "reporting the news" and ratings wars.  It gets crossed whenever there is a story of this nature to report.

I can't imagine what the survivors may feel watching that in tv, perhaps from the hospital...

Thanks guys, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

I was watching the breakfast news on the BBC this morning, but missed the video if they showed it. I really hope they didn't show it - I expect better sense from the BBC. They did show the stills and have linked to the vid from their website (The UK's most viewed new website) which is bad enough, but if they do show it a tea-time tonight, I'll find myself moved to complain to them for the first time ever.

i think it's madness but a part of me also thinks that so many people want to know why what happened occurred. i'm not saying i think it's a good idea that every news service aired part of it; i don't think it is.

people just want answers. not that the videos or his manifesto gives them answers.

They never view Bin Laden videos on TV I thought it was strange that they would play it. I didn't learn about the viewing until the next morning. Its all over the internet now. I saw it and regret seeing it- very chilling

It's news and news sell, that's what the media do. I know that it's painful for the families. This is very sad and the bad part is all of the copy-cats that's going to come
out and try to top this.

Complaints from the victims families (and perhaps from people in general) have caused them to re-think and back off.  I am glad to see this occur.
