I´m all torn up. I have been showing my parents house to 11 couples in a short time to day. The phone has been ringing and ringing and I´m all torn up.

There are already three offers and the highest one will run out before 12 noon to morrow. There might be others. The house will go at a reasonable price but then I have to clear the house.

where will I put the furniture that I don´t want to give or throw away? where will I fit the things in that I love. And this is going to be a job and I really don't want to sell my childhood home.

Ed I thought about renting a container for a while. Then I don't know what to do. but I will find an answer. Movers. I have two big boys and a husband. They will certainly help.

a container, meaning like an ocean shipping container? that would certainly accommodate the contents of most houses, i would think.

i just wish i had some helpful suggestions.

it's a huge job to go thru and pack and move everything!  overwhelming is the right word. and especially because it's your childhood home....all the sentimental things.

renting a storage unit could help for a while until you figure out what you want to keep.  but in the end, you'll have to choose...

Aaaawww, Skald, my dear sweet friend, sorry that this is such a difficult time for you.  I can just imagine you wanting to hold onto the house and its contents. . .the house and the little garden look so beautiful by the way ;-)

Here in the UK we have huge big storage places where you can rent any size "room" that you need for as long as you need.  We used it once when we had to move out of one rented place, but the next place we were moving into was not ready yet.  When you can stack things to the roof from the back to the front, it is amazing how much you can actually fit into a place that is about the size of a large lounge.

I really hope that you will get some time to give it some good thought, you and your hubby together and then decide whether you want to let it go to the highest bid so far.  It will be a big job, but I know that if anyone can do it - You CAN!

    Love and Hugs, Polar

Silver. Thanks yes , I mean like a shipping container. I appreciate your good thoughts.
    Secret.
Yes In the end I will have to choose and I have already , just don't know where to keep the few things I want. Yes maybe I can get a storage place. I will have to find out. Thank you dear.
Polar. Here I sit sipping your tea and it is soooo goood. I think this is the best tea I´ve tasted and Im not just saying this.
    Yes the garden is beautiful in summer and not very little.  I don't know about those storage rooms but they might have the here. the house will have to be sold and it will be sold tomorrow.  {{{{{{Hugs every one}}}}}}

Great, Skald, you seem more at peace now with your decision.  And I'm so pleased that you like the tea!  In SA we give it to children warm or cold as an alternative to water or juice.  It also has a lovely calming effect.  Sometimes when my sinuses bug me at night and my nose is itchy and running I will drink some rooibos tea and it makes the symptoms go away.  I will be sure to send you some tea on a regular basis :-)

Polar. You are wonderful and do you know the tea has calmed me down. I was trying to write a comment on your post but sometimes I´m so awkward.

Skald, I'm so sorry that you have to sell that home.  It's beautiful!  I think you should hold onto it and just rent it out.  Have you considered doing that?  Do your boys want to purchase it?

My Husband's (investor) advice would be to not tell ANYONE interested in the home that you've got no place to put things.  They will keep their offer the same and offer you to keep everything in the house and let them take care of it.  They will sell the things you leave behind.  They might tell you they're going to throw everything out, but put it up for auction or advertise.

Other than that, I would rent something to store everything and go through it all a little bit at a time.  It could take years if it looked anything like my Grandmother's house.  Half the "stuff" I wanted, was given to me, but I'll be honest and tell you that most of it is still boxed up and hasn't been touched.

Find strength through the contents of Little Box.  Drink that tea and rest.

Daily. Thank you so much for the comment. My husband does not want to take care of the garden or the maintain the house anymore. I  t will be sold to morrow but thanks so much for your kindness.
I will rent something to store the things at first. Yes and I´ll drink the tea and rest.
Soon I will find something for the Little Box. {{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}} and thanks again your words are so warm.

Oh Skald......How I feel for you. That desire to hold on to the things that are precious memories of your childhood is so powerful. This is another page turning in the book of your life. Take time to go through your moms home, touch and see your memories. Savor them all. Spend some time in the garden and commit the sights and scents to your memory. I know you ll turn this page with grace and dignity.

Skald- That is so difficult to let go of something like that. Take pictures of inside the house, every inch.  My childhood home got tore down a few years ago, I felt like a piece of my history was gone for good.  I have no pictures. Take pictures of the outside. I know that this is heart breaking for you.  *hugs*

Botoni. Yes there is an other page turned. Last year I got the place for mum in a wonderful home. There are only 8 ladies there and all done for them. she needs 24 hour care. Then I took months going over things, throwing, giving and so on. Reading letters that my grandmother got a a child. All kind of things were in the house. Now it is time to say good bye and I do hope that a young family with child or children will buy.
mom.  I am so sorry that you don't even have pictures of the house. I have a house as a  memory. I wrote about it in the beginning the name of the house was Jónshús meaning Johnshouse and my grandparents  lived there. It was also torn down. And they could hardly brake it, I heard. It was so strong.
