I need a vacation in the worst way and have been dreaming of places to go lately.  The "abuse"  at work is unbearable.  I say abuse because my new shift is the forgotten one.  I'm settled between 1st and 2nd shift and get the brunt of both.

Each shift complains about each other and those of us in the middle see both sides.  It is difficult to defend either side because we tend to get blacklisted.

1st shift complains that 2nd shift has it easy.  We only run 3 rooms after 3pm and then put the remaining cases on the waitlist.  If 1st shift hasn't finished them by the time they leave, 2nd shift gets shafted!  On top of finishing the cases from 1st shift, they also have to clean all 14 rooms and set the rooms for the following day, plus gather all the supplies and equipment for the next day.  There are times when 2nd shift has it easy and then there are times when they have it rough.

2nd shift complains that 1st shift doesn't do anything.  They don't clean up after their rooms are done, they don't make it a priority to finish cases, they horse around all day.  But 1st shift does get slammed!  That's why the rooms aren't cleaned and the cases aren't finished.

And then there is my shift.  There are about 6 of us that are in the middle.  We are expected by first shift to take the long and difficult cases because they don't want to end up leaving a case unfinished.  We are expected by 2nd shift to have most of the cleaning done and supplies ready and in the rooms by the time we leave.  We frequently skip breaks to get the work done and are often forgotten about when lunches come around.

So what the hell are they complaining about?! Try my shoes on!

Sometimes they do switch but these people never listen!  I've tried.

in the kind of high-pressure environment such as a hospital, i would imagine that it's very easy to develop tunnel vision. i can't imagine that it would be easy to be an agent of change in that regard, nini.
