This is not a statement about fashionable trends. I just want to know if you still consider watches relevant in today's world.

Do you agree with this conclusion?

no, i don't. i find that having a mobile phone obviates such a need. watches are still pretty, though.

With all the electronic gadgets we have many don't use a watch but rely on the what every we carry: ipods, PDA, cellphones etc. I still think they are still relevant but as I said many don't need to wear one.
  • momsrock said on Apr 02, 2007....
I have never worn a watch...which drives my husband out of his mind. But there is a clock in the car, on the computer, in every room of our house and on my cell phone so I don't really see the need for one.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Apr 02, 2007....
I have never consistently worn watches.  I rely on all the other electronics to keep me on schedule.  Wearing a watch is stressful for me since I'm compulsive anyway.
  • secretlife said on Apr 02, 2007....

i have always worn a watch.  since as far back as i can remember.

  • wombat said on Apr 02, 2007....
Did not realize I wasn't subscribed to you.  Hope it's ok if I do.

I wear a watch because I like to keep up with my break times at work, and because it looks nice on my wrist.  I like funky ones.
  • dazediva said on Apr 02, 2007....
I don't wear a watch when I am at home - I just use my mobile to look at the time - it's quite handy since I always have it on me.

I do wear watches when I step out of the house - so be it for work, or meeting friends, social gatherings etc.  Saying that, I also take my watch off once I'm at work because it tends to scrape at my keyboard when I'm typing.  It's easier not wearing one when I'm on the computer or laptop.

I do wear a watch, I have to  I am mindless when it comes to time and where I should be and where I must be and where am I again???

I have three watches and wear them on different days I also have a mobile but do not use that for time....

I love watches for their fashion as much as the fact that it keeps me on time to which I am an absolute freak about.  hate being late anywhere... its a phobia really to be late is to be a complete flop!
  • wombat said on Apr 02, 2007....
(slipping an hello to Lucy, hope things are sitll good with you)

As for other stuff yeh well...... you know I'm still sex starved but that may be my lot at the moment.... he hee how you doing haven't seen you for a while??
  • wombat said on Apr 02, 2007....
Lucy:  Tried to cut back on my time here some, not working tonight, however..  Been through that old stage of depression and just too much of too much....  and too much going on at home to deal with anything else.  Getting back in the groove, though.  Can't believe it's only lunch time where you are.  (well, of course, I can)   What are you (or did you) have?
  • Lucytorial said on Apr 02, 2007....
Haven't eaten yet, it will be like yesterday I won't grab anything until about 2pm??? agghhhh I haven't been much on here lately either.... don't know why maybe just a little flat to be honest..
  • wombat said on Apr 02, 2007....
It happens, but then we bounce back.  I missed lunch, and dinner.  But there is always tomorrow, I hope.....

So, what are you wearing?  (just messing with you about the post the other night, about you looking sharp in your great new job.  I am still jealous, by the way, but in a nice way)
  • Zayda said on Apr 02, 2007....
i don't wear a watch any more. i used to put one on every morning. well, actually, i used to take mine off every morning when i showered and put it back on but take it off so many times during the day, especially when i had a great deal of typing to do. so, i finally just gave up wearing one. now i have a collection of really nice watches that just line up in a nice neat row in one of the drawers of my jewelry box.
  • mommyof2 said on Apr 02, 2007....
I use to always, now I figure it a waste of money cuz I always break them.
  • wombat said on Apr 02, 2007....
I wonder why I wear mine turned around, like a nurse, when I am not one?  I think it just is more convienient to see.
  • Eilan said on Apr 02, 2007....
I feel naked without my watch.
  • CamDaMan20 said on Apr 02, 2007....
Work Construction...always wearing a watch (except operating equipment) since I am moving around outside constantly  watching for deliveries..breaks...set-up times.  Hell, I would be lost at work without my watch.

Since I also do legal work (research/appeals/post-conviction motions) I have to catch clerk and atty offices open ect...

Yea, need my watch...cell phones hit dead zones...go dead, not so my watch.
  • MissMimi said on Apr 02, 2007....
I used to, because I hate not knowing what time it is. And hubby was always prone to answering "5 minutes since the last time you asked me", when I asked him. Now I use the cell phone as a watch.
  • beyondtheveil said on Apr 02, 2007....
bronx- After having worn one virtually all my life, I feel undressed without one. Although there is a cell in my pocket, I find it so easy to just glance at my wrist for time. For anyone who wants to know the time throughout the day and evening, I can't imagine being without a wristwatch.
  • Nowteam said on Apr 03, 2007....
Not anymore mainly because so many gadgets have the time displayed on them now. The computer, the phone etc etc.
  • redrocks said on Apr 03, 2007....
i know a lot of people just use their mobile as watches, but I still have mine.
It's a model all in metal and I like it very much -- it's been a Christmas gift and it makes me think to my love everytime I watch it!!!
  • Alyss said on Apr 03, 2007....
I wear a watch but it has to be a battery operated one, wind up watches cease to work after a few days.
  • gingersoul said on Apr 03, 2007....

No ...i have my cell ..i dont need a watch....

I always had a watch, even beautiful, expensive ones... but when mine died 2 years ago i didnt want spend money to buy another one...

I have enough devices around me telling that my time is running by......:-)

  • brokenandused said on Apr 03, 2007....
ya know, i own probably six watches, i love watches but i NEVER wear any of them. Mainly, due to my job which is in food services, and i never remember to put one on. Such a shame, all these beautiful watches just sitting there....
  • lioneljay said on Apr 03, 2007....
I wear a watch for two simple reasons: it's a long-time habit and I share Eilan's sense of nakedness when I am not wearing mine. Second, I need to know the time whenever I am running a meeting and most conference rooms, training rooms, and auditoriums do not have clocks that are visible from where I operate.
  • pascodelta said on Apr 03, 2007....
I don't wear a watch as they tend to stop on me. i've been told it's something to do with the blood, but, I think I probably just don't wind them up or change batteries.  Besides, I am notoriously a bad time-keeper, so people are always ringing me to find out if I am on my way or to make sure I haven't gone off on a tangent - very handy, even if annoying.
  • CreativeWoman said on Apr 03, 2007....
I rarely wear a watch anymore.  Like Ed, I just look at my cell phone about 50,000 times a day.  lol

  • Bronx said on Apr 03, 2007....
Guys, I am simply overwhelmed by this response. Thanks, everyone!

I used to feel naked without a watch while growing up, despite the problems:

wind-ups always seemed to be off real-time after a day or so, battery-types needed changing every six months or so, opening the back cover often meant buying a new watch because of errors in workmanship, the watch face always got scratched against a wall and instantly reduced the watches 'likeability' value to me, and the leather or metal straps always left a sweaty whiff on my skin, people using me as a speaking time piece, etc.

So, when alternatives came up in computers and cell phones, I just switched over - even though some people do a double-take when they see me without a watch, while some say 'Good afternoon' to me in the morning!

I just smile and say, 'Good day'.

Thanks everyone, wish I could reply to everyone individually. But I can't right now.

Working in medicine, I have to have a watch on. With digital, military time. Has to be. I feel lost and confused and frustrated without my watch. And I wear mine so the face is on the inside of my wrist. I think it's easier that way.

ali m: on the inside looking in - I like that, never worn a watch like that before.

SW,   doyou: yes, they are still pretty and relevant today.

momsrock,   U-I: really? Never? Don't quite know why I'm surprised!

SL: I guess you do love your time piece, don't you?

wombat: thanks for the vote. Just wondering - how funky is your watch?

dazed: with all that on/off action, it better not have a leather strap!
You wear your phone all the time? My wife had hers close by, even in the delivery room - "I'll talk to you later, it's very painful right now....".

Lucy: 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' doesn't have a thing on you!

    Zayda,   mommyof2: occupational hazards, perhaps?

wombat: convenience does matter a lot.

Eilan: WELCOME TO MY BLOG! Just wondering - how do you feel then while naked but with your watch on? Sorry, just teasing a bit and being mischievous - you don't have to answer that.

  • Bronx said on Apr 05, 2007....
Cam20: that's a very good point right there - cell phones can be unreliable for time, what with dead zones and batteries, etc.

MissMimi,  beyond: I can see why you'd need your piece.

Nowteam: makes you wonder sometimes who is watching who, or keeping track of who, eh? - the watch or the wearer?

    redrocks: that's so romantic!

Alyss: I know what you mean - hard to know when it stopped keeping time, huh?

Ginger: oh, that sounded so sad. Hope you're alright?

  • Bronx said on Apr 05, 2007....
broken: that's such a pity - great jewelry, though, right?

Lionel: yes, you definitely need a time piece nearby and close at hand!

pasco: I guess it's hard to make time stand still, unless it's the watch's fault!

CW: 50,000 times a day? Why not just let the time do it's work - tic toc...? Tee hee.

Well, mobil, that's quite a marathon you've got going there!

I pulled a good one yesterday here at home and just thought I'd share for a laugh.

I got home two hours early from working 12 hours shifts for a few days, so I crawled into bed and meditated myself into a deep sleep, planning on just a nap. ...
Cast Iron, butter, some freshly crushed garlic, black pepper, a couple handfuls of mushrooms and, oh DEER !...
If money permits, one of the most important accessories is perhaps a luxury watch. Luxury watches aren’t just functional, they are also a wonderful addition to your wardrobe....
