Mom has been asking for an update on my new job/business, so here's one for anyone who is interested.

For those of you who don't know, I've started a home business as an authorized dealer for Magic Kids whereby I promote kidswear below retail prices.  Individuals and wholesalers enter my discount referral code MK31577 to get the huge savings.  Once an individual or wholesaler registers and enters my code, they don't have to remember it again.

So, if you go there to browse and think that you might make a purchase later, it will be ok to register and create an account so you don't have to remember the MK31577 later. You get the great savings when you come back and I get credit for the sale. I earn a 50% commission over and above the cost of the items purchased.

As with any business, it's taking some time to build a customer base. I am making sales. So, it's all good.  I have to temper my longing for huge success with patience.

I have plans for a direct mail campaign.  I am waiting on supplies from my parent company before it goes out though.  I am having business cards, flyers, and envelopes printed for me. This direct mail campaign is going to target 250 wholesalers and charitable organizations.  I figure they will be a potential high source of income for me. After those go out, I plan to do the same type of campaign with charitable organizations and businesses in my local area.

I have a template for the promotional sales letters that will be going out.  I will do those myself. I've decided to use a linen resume type paper.  It wasn't that expensive and I feel it will make a good first impression on potential clients.

Yesterday, I designed letterhead to match what I could purchase from the company.  I thought it would be easer and cheaper to create myself to use it as I need it.  As things get busier, I'll have it printed.  I'll pinch pennies until then

My first series of print newspaper ads start this week.  I am beginning with classified ads because they are cheaper.  I have templates for display ads as the business grows and I can justify the expense.  I also am taking advantage of all the free on-line classifieds that I can. I am trying to find those that are connected to the big daily newspapers. So if you know of any, I would love to hear about them. My thinking is that they draw more readers.

I'm also thinking about doing a direct mailing targeting Ebay wholesalers.

I will also send flyers out locally to everyone I know...and then some.

The success of this business all relies on how well I get the word out.  I have to be sure to promote the site and my discount code so that everybody wins.

On a writing note, I sent my resume out to a public relations firm this morning that a friend thought might be a good fit for me.  I've also completed a couple of greeting card assignments.

I'm juggling many balls in the air at the moment.  Success is surely around the corner.

sounds like you've got some good plans that you are working on - I've been thinking of starting one of the work from home businesses - but I really do not have the temperment for sales - which most of those types of businesses seem to be - I'm checking out the Magis Kids stuff online - it looks great - I'll send it off to both my sisters and my mom - they'll love it!

    waterstar,
Thanks. Please be sure to pass along the discount code of MK31577 to them too so they get the great savings and I get the commission  :-)

I searched a long time before I found something I thought I would like doing.  This isn't the multi-level marketing that so many home businesses seem to embrace.  I knew I didn't want that.  I like this approach so far. It is pretty straight forward.

    I appreciate your support!

CW- The ebay idea sounds good to me. I click on items in ebay and see businesses advertising their wares. Can you do this?
