The Internet has revolutionalized our lives in ways beyond our imagination, it has shrunk
the world into a global village and with a click of the mouse, it can "transport" user to the other side of the world, across mountains and vast oceans.

The Internet has tranformed our lives, the way we work (e-commerce), the way we play (XBox Live, MMORPG), the way we shop (ebay, Amazon), the way we communicate (SKYPE, emails, IM), and certainly, the way we interact (Livevideo, Second Life).

Without the Internet, i doubt there will be Blogging in its current form, and Soulcast community might not exist, and I'll not be posting this topic here and now!

Today I'm not discussing about the internet, but about how blogging has changed our lives.
It heighten me to read about the positive effect blogging in Soulcast had on misunderstood1162's (sex) life! You go girl!

So how has blogging changed your life? Has it affected any aspects of your life in a positive and/or negative way?

For me, blogging has help me become more organise of my time management, and more focus in performing my tasks.  For instance, if I come across certain interesting topic I want to blog about, I'll conduct online research to find out more details about the subject, as well as to verified the authencity of the sources.

On the flip side, blogging has "eaten" away my sleeping and play time.  Juggling a full-time
job and raising a young family with 2 kids, leaves me little personal time.  I make do with what little time I had left in a day to go online from 10pm, after the kids are in bed.

I've since watched less TV programmes, even less movies, read less and sleep less!  It was ages ago since I last touch my gaming console.

But I've also learn to multitask on the fly, and have slowly become a mobile warrior!
I download ebooks, record my favourite tv programmes onto my brandless "madeinchina" PMP, to enjoy them during my journey to and fro work.

These are the gains and losses that has affected me since I started blogging. So what's
the trade-offs for you? Something's gotta give right?

the prospect of learning so much--which was always the promise of the world wide web--is for me made manifest here at SC and another of my online haunts. i learn a great deal here, about things, others and sometimes, even myself.

SW, no trade-offs?  There are no changes to your current routine compare to pre-internet days?
  • silverwhisper said on Mar 27, 2007....
so far i've been lucky that way. that may change when i change employment, however: after all, it should be obvious even to the most obtuse observer that i'm addicted to this place. :>

tinker- My time here is about seven weeks and much more time was spent initially by me on SC than now. My computer skills are fourth grade, so it took me a while to learn the site and keep up. Now, I can scoot around quite easily.

Before SC I used the computer for mail, ordering online, and searching items of interest. Sitting in front of a screen (other than tv) never interested me until this site came along.

I'm in here early mornings and later evenings, like you.

beyond, glad to hear that your computer skills had improved and allow you to scoot around easily.  That's a positive you can claim out of blogging.

Too soon to tell for blogging, but right now I am spending far too much time in front of a computer. I'd say that's a negative effect.

On the other hand without SC or various other places I go I would be a much lonelier person. But more productive...

But what I did before reading these things on the internet was to read books, magazines, watch TV, or whatever. It's just in this case I get to respond to what I'm reading.

As a recent addict of the Internet (well, at least of SC) I can say it has had a positive effect in my personality.  I seem to even think differently--more on the ball--and aware of other peoples comments and actions.  It's been like a lesson in social skills.  But I also spend way too much time here. No, let me correct that--I spend way too much time thinking about SC when I am not here!  I also sometimes get depressed for no reason, and just click around, too tired and uninspired to say hello to someone.  Then one night, I will be back in a good mood and in the zone, and have an amazingly good time that lifts my mood for days.  Weird.

P.S.  Tinkerman--I found where you wrote the One Tin Soilder song.  Again, thank you, and I just realized you said you were an ancestor of Hans Christian Anderson.  I would like to hear more if you don't mind.  Or not.  I just find it fascinating.

That would be me, not Tinkerman, but thanks. It may be just family mythology, though. It's hard to say.

I agree about it making me more on the ball about things. In many ways it has been more useful than my college writing courses.

Laughing my hinny off at myself!  I'm really on the ball, aren't I?  I apologize, and seem to be doing alot of that lately!  I had in mind to find you and somehow the "T's" got mixed up in my mind.  I need to think about meds.....Ha.....

wombat, "Tin Soldier song"? Ancestor of Hans Christain Anderson??? A sure case of mistaken identity!

perhaps it's true you couldn't "switch off" your mind from Soulcast, even when you are not log in!

Give it a break, wombat, and take care...
  • wombat said on Mar 28, 2007....
It was a case of mistaken identity.  I had on my mind to let him know I enjoyed his posting the words to the song--and when I got caught up in typing to a "T", I forgot.  I am trying to give it a break, but it just doesn't seem to be happening.  When I move, that will take care of it.  I apologize for the mix-up, but figure you will let it go, so not too upset.  As long as you aren't.
