I've seen a few people who are familiar with Oregon on here, and I just want to talk about where I'm from.

I was born in Emmanuel Hospital in Portland Oregon in January 1970.

I grew up with my dad and my brother -- after divorcing my mother my dad got custody of us. That was not very common in the 70s and I still think it's not very common today.

Still, we moved around quite a bit. We lived in Portland and Eugene and Springfield, eventually Crooked River Ranch and Prineville in Central Oregon near my grandparents.

Eventually we moved to Wichita, Kansas. That was an okay place, and I have some good memories from there. I wish I had kept more in touch with some of my grade school friends.

But even that didn't last, though. We moved back to Crooked River Ranch in Oregon where I spent my high school days. It's not much to look at really, typical double-wide trailer with broken-down cars and broken-down outbuildings. My dad did have a pole barn roof put over the trailer a few years ago. It looks... interesting.

Of course, the best thing to say about it is the beautiful view of the Cascade Mountain Range. To the west, you can see a whole gamut of mountains, from Mt. Bachelor in the south to Mt. Hood in the north, and about seven or so peaks in between. It's truly a breathtaking sight.

After I got married, I lived in California while I was in the military. When I was discharged, I moved back to Central Oregon. Unfortunately, the economic winds blew me away from home as well and now I have to live in the Portland area. I still visit whenever I can though. And every time, it is like returning home.

I know where Redmond is. Also Sisters. I love Sisters. It's very quaint and there's a kick-ass quilt show there every July. I always seem to have just missed it every time we've been there. My sister-in-law used to live in Portland.

When we vacation in SunRiver, we always make a big grocery store run in Bend. I'm sure you're just fascinated to know all this. ;)

Of course! It's always nice to hear others that are near home or come to visit, and who know of the grandeur of the place.

Wow, Tin, that was quite the story!
I don't know of many Dad's these days that have custody of their children!

My Parent's took us to Portland when we were younger.  I'm trying to remember the places we went.  I know we walked over a suspension bridge and I cried.  Also, on the coast, I told my Parent's I had been there before in a dream.  They thought I was nuts, but I was swearing on it.  Then, I remembered, I didn't dream it, but saw those tall rocks in the movie "The Goonies" lol!

I can't wait to read more!

TS, you sure you want that much information about yourself online? i don't recommend being quite as open on SC as you may be accustomed to being elsewhere.

Tin-  I live one state up from you buddy.  I got arrested in Woodburn way back in the 70's.  I spare-changed a plainclothed cop.  Another story for another time I suppose.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Mar 27, 2007....
Mom, it was a crime to ask someone for spare change? I remember, years ago, a law passed in Boston where "bums" couldn't be so many feet near an ATM.  Yeah, that didn't work.  LOL!

I lived in Oregon for two years and liked it pretty well. I lived in a town called Lakeview, in the south east about a hundred miles from Klamath falls. I have seen several parts of Oregon and loved them all. I also have been to eugene once, but don't remember much.

You're right, SW. On the one hand, writing stuff like this is the reason I wanted a blog. On the other hand, sometimes discretion is still the better part of valor.

Time to edit a little bit...
  • TinSoldier said on Mar 27, 2007....
Heh. You know, the fact is I was relatively sober when I wrote the original... it was just one of those things that once I started writing it kinda flowed out.

Maybe I should eventually write a fictional treatment of it. Nah. No one would ever believe it...

Tinsodier. I think this post was very good and it is more alive as because you tell  us where you have lived. I can't see that it puts you in any danger. But I´m from a small country where every body knows every thing about each other, that is if they want and we are  not afraid to give personal information.
Anyway I just wanted to say that I liked your post..
  • skald said on Mar 27, 2007....
Tinsoldier. Next door. I´m from Iceland.
  • TinSoldier said on Mar 27, 2007....
    Thank you, skald.

It's not so much about where I live but more about some family details that may require me to think better on how to express them. If at all.

In some ways they are just common knowledge within my family. In other ways I guess it is information that people could use against me if they so chose. I don't really expect that, but who knows any more?

You are from Iceland? I had guessed Denmark at first until I read a little more closely.
  • skald said on Mar 27, 2007....
Tinsoldier. I see what you mean. All that we write can be used against us if we are not careful but then again why should it. I have a blog on an Icelandic site. I write there in full name and most of us do. I have also put enough here so that I could really be known. At first I did not want to be recognized but then I thought I am who I am and that´s how I´m going to present my self.

I also guessed that it was´t exactly about the places you´v bean to it´s more your story. Hope I m expressing my self right.
    yes, I´m from Iceland.

Daily- yeah it is illegal or was anyway.  It is called Vagrancy :)  but that was the 70's. :)

Oregon is a pretty place Tin, the Westside green and lush. I've been all
through that country, but it's been a few years back.

Portland is a mess politically, the far left has gone so far left there that there
is no right anymore. It's another San Francisco in that way.

Have you ever been to Zigzag?

Shit...I don't know what happened to the rest of my message. Anyway, I was asking about Klamuth Falls...my husband and I are planning on a move to Oregan and Klamuth Falls seems really nice. How is Lakeview? Are there any other places around that area anyone might recommend I check out?

KAHNEETA (Indian Reservation). Tee pees. Naked girls. Starry desert skies. Hot blue days. Olympic sized pool. Oregon home grown. Campfires. Guitars. Sing-alongs. 265 days of sun the whole year - IN OREGON. Mt.Hood: skiing, night and day. EUGENE: campus town, slept with the girl of my dreams...CANNON BEACH: party down at 6 A.M. into the waves fully clothed, then up the coast all the way to ASTORIA with 13 companions, flying black bras from antennae like flags of freedom...Wizard Island in Crater Lake...Oregon...Oregon...that rings a bell. Let's meet at the top of Multnomah Falls and then we'll drive off into the sunset of the Columbia Gorge...

Well to me it is just like like any other city it has good points and bad but not a bad place to live. Some good schools and groceries and such. I didn't live there. Lakeview is all privatly owned so evewrything is a bit more expensive, but generaly a nice place to live. People are kind and the business's are as well.

Hi TS.  I've read some of your comments, but don't really know you yet.  My daughter just moved to Salem and loves it.  She loves being able to be to the sea or to the mountains in an hour or so.  Maybe some day I'll get to visit there.

mobil: Considering I drive over Mt. Hood every few months (except in winter) I have driven through ZigZag quite often. Mt. Hood wilderness is beautiful.

But there are other nice passes as well, such as the Santiam pass, and the Willamette pass way to the south. Both offer absolutely stunningly beautiful drives.

Hi, satyr. Yes, it's pretty nice here in the valley. Especially with the I5 corridor everything is pretty much just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

biglove: I've never been to Lakeview. Klamath Falls is pretty nice, though. I've really only driven through...

Last year we went to Crater Lake. Talk about beautiful. That has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Then next time I go there I'll make sure to have my digital camera.

TheNakedProfessor: Yeah, you've been here, I can tell :D .
