If you could have a conversation with anyone living or dead, who would you choose? Consider that language would be no barrier. And assume for this post that all said would be truthful. Here are the first ones that came to me.

1) Jesus- Allthough I am not the most religious, consider me confused and and searching for truth. This would end speculation by many that He never existed since there is not a shread of archealogical evidence. Next, I would hear His message from His own mouth without the writings of men or through translation. It would also clear up the position of Mary of Magdala.

2) Joan of Arc- My premier hero. I have a hundred questions and would love to hear the whole story. I want to know what she looked like and see her personality in action.

3) Amelia Earhart- One of the great mysteries. What happened over the Pacific?

4) Marilyn Monroe- About her life and what happened leading up to her death. Does she know if she was murdered?

5) Lizzie Borden and Jack the Ripper together. Did she do it, who was he, and the story behind both.

Surely there must be those you would want a conversation with. Who are yours?

beyond: of historical figures, i think that it would be interesting to talk with nikola tesla, the rogue inventor and scientific genius. ditto, martin luther (what was up with his rabid anti-semitism at the end of his life?). thomas jefferson and alexander hamilton would be fascinating to get to know. samuel johnson, noted raconteur and dictionary creator, would also be of great interest to me.

i'm sure there are others but at this hour, i cannot think of any.

This is actually quite tricky for me to answer.

I'd like to speak with my Grandmother and hear her life story from her pov.

If I'm thinking of historical figures then Mary Queen of Scots, Eleanor of Acquitaine, Zenobia, Hatchepsut & Nefertiti.

**Jesus and Mary Magdalene (so i will have both side of the story)

    **Simone Du Beauvoir

**Any member of the Resistance during WWII

**Alyss chose already Eleonora d'Aquitania...great woman in great fascinating times so i will go with Elizabeth I and Caterina De Medici

    **Confucius

oh there would be so many!

    --Jesus for obvious reasons

--FDR...did he think the products of the new deal would still exist today? I know a lot about it since my dad has been a TVA employee for 30 years but I'm curious about what he thinks of it today vs when he started it.

--Martin Luther King Jr.  mostly about the end of his life as Ed already discussed.

--Ben Franklin, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks...the list could go on forever.

As far as living people? Michael Jackson...A) what the hell is wrong with him B) to discuss the color changes of his skin.

My thought is that Christianity in today's world bears very little resemblance to what it was a couple thousand years ago. I'd love to talk to Jesus to get His take on modern Christianity. I'd also like to know if He really spoke to Pat Robertson.

I'd also like to talk to FDR. He was disabled from polio, used a wheelchair a good part of the time, and yet, the public was unaware. Fascinating. What a great unspoken conspiracy he must have had with the press. I'd love to hear about the medical treatment that was availlable to him when he first became ill.

Julia Child had a big influence on the way I cook, and the way it's different from the way my mother did. (Believe me, this is a good thing.) I watched her shows on PBS for years. Every time I make a roux, I think of her. I would enjoy hearing some of her stories very much.

William Shakespeare, Dickins, Twain...and Michelangelo, Leonardo, Di Vinci,
    Abe Lincoln, FDR...

First, I'd like to chat with my three dearly departed cats.  Since you said language would be no barrier (and it was while they were alive).  I always wondered what they were thinking when they were alive (although sometimes they made it quite clear).  But I think that would be fun.

Historically, I'd like to talk to Che Guevara and learn more about his world vision.  I'd also like to talk to Fidel Castro before he dies and get his version of what he was trying to do with/for his country, and what he thinks were his greatest achievements and biggest mistakes.

    family  & friends:
    my maternal grandfather
my  mother's great grandfather who fought on both sides in the Civil War
my friend lizabeth who we lost in college

    currently living figures:
bill clinton, stephen king, anne rice, senator james webb

    Alive:
Oprah Winfrey, Nelson Mandela, Ozzy Osbourne, J.K Rowling (a conversation that will mostly revolve around the next Harry Potter book) and the girl who said I will be pregnant before I finish school.

Wish we knew (or rather "Do you (realy) know their dead or not?)
Elvis Presley, Neil Armstrong, Anna Nicole Smith, Osama Bin Laden (to get his side of the story) and my father, where ever the hell he might be.

I think the first week after my death I am going to spend just tracking down people to ask some questions including to the ruler of where ever I end up (that's gonna be a very long conversation) ;D

A few others who would be worth a try: Roger Bannister (1st sub-4-minute miler), Yogi Berra, Ted Williams, Bill Russell all from sports; Barry Goldwater and Bill Clinton from politics; Preston Sturges and Humphrey Bogart from the movies; John Lennon and Ludwig Beethoven from music.

Second, would be my Grandfather because I miss him Dearly, and would just like to talk to him about anything!! Third, would be my friend Carroll, whom I've know since I was a child who passed away on Thanksgiving 2004, I'd like to know if he really starved himself to death, like they said he did, (which I don't believe) I'd also just like to talk to him, because maybe I could have made a difference?? Also my Aunt, who I miss, and would just like to chat with, I know she's have some good advice for me...~~Vanishingspirit~~

I want to know why they started changing roles and if they lived long enough....would they have ended up going to the opposite extremes...like a role reversal...because I'm a curious kind of person  I read a book about it once and it was hard to believe and i would like to ask him for myself :)

Edgar Allen Poe. I think he was kicked to death for the intimations in his poem, about "Annie"... "engulfed in the tresses of Annie..as I lie so still on my bed... you might think I was dead..." you know.. his talking to dead people...
Someone said that John Lennon only talked to dead people.. mostly... and he was supposed to find a way back to let his friends know...I love listening to him go on and ohn...

Hey guys and girls. We have had the computer down most of the day having installed satellite tv and switching to dsl wireless on two computers. It's late and if I don't get to you, I will later.

Ed- I read a biography on Tesla. Very interesting story and truly great mind. In a book I read on the English language included a history of the beginnings of Websters dictionary which was also quite interesting.

alyss- There is also much I would like to hear about members of my family. I'm familiar with everyone you mentioned except Zenobia, can you help me?

ginsoul- I would bet that you could find members of the resistance on your next trip to Italy. Your friends in journalism could probably help. In my readings on your country I've read much on the Medici family, also the Este family. And you can drool on my blog as much as you want.

momsrock- Perhaps someday we will get a book about Michael, there are many who would be interested in the truth of his whole life. So sad about Rosa.

mimi- You brought up a good point about askind Jesus and his association with Pat Robertson, not to mention the president. Also, my thoughts on Christainity agree with yours. The theologians say the same thing.

secret- I almost mentioned Moses in my post for many more unanswered questions. The great philosophers, yes. I'm afraid Buddha would lose me before we got started, but would be interesting. Somehow I guessed you would mention your dad.

mommy- Your first baby, how wonderful would that be? I was raised not too far from Roswell and that crash has been a thorn in my side also.

kruu- I didn't think of talking to a beloved animal. That happens to be a very good idea. A view of life from your felines' own mind and heart, what an interesting thought. I just wonder if Castro has arranged for truthful memoirs. If he hasn't, his brother could.

zayda- That's the problem, isn't it? So many to choose from for an actual conversation. Clemens and Woolf would be a lot of fun. I have a first edition biography on Clemens by his daughter Clara. And even I would like to talk to your ancestor who fought on both sides in the Civil War.

mouse- You bring up a good thing of tracking people down after you die. This has come to my mind also. There is a lot to account for, isn't there?

d6fer- I am going to read your source tomorrow. There is a book out now about a little known act of terrorism during WWI where part of Manhatten and the harbor were blown killing many. If you are interested in these sorts of mysteries, I'll think of the name and post it here if you want.

HH- We all want to decipher the truth, don't we? Mary would be an excellent source also. Lincoln is one of my heroes, I'd like that too.

muckraker- You ask some good questions. I've seen three programs on tv about not bombing the access to death camps, or the camps themselves. I'd also like to know why he turned back the ship with 1600 Jews in New York harbor.

lioneljay- I've already mentioned my feelings of Lincoln, he is another pick of mine also. You brought up an interesting person in Beethoven. Although classical is not my top musical interest, he and Tchaikowski are my favorites. There is a book out now on Beethovens life and how his lack of hearing affected his composition style.

vanishing- Welcome. There are some from my family and a friend I'd like to talk to also. There is so much from my family history that is missing forever because I didn't collect it at the time they were here.

mlw- I got a laugh from the Bush conversation. I don't know if I could carry one with him either. Michelle is super and Cher one of my favorite singers. Welcome.

tappa- One grandfather I grew up with but the other is a total mystery. I know how that feels. Walt Disney and Elizabeth Fry I find interesting choices. Welcome.

katana- We certainly do agree on Joan of Arc. Gandhi is one not mentioned before you, who I thought would be mentioned more. Einstein is another I'd be interested in.

front- I"ll bet Poe would be one heck of a conversation. I've heard so much about him. I'd like to know the truth of his mental state to begin with.

lioness- A conversation with God. Now there is the ultimate, isn't it? Nostradamus, another I hadn't thought of. My grandparents and father are gone also. My mother still living. Most of us want to talk to the passed family, don't we?

beyond; Zenobia was a Palmyran Queen and one of warrior queens. She led her people against the Romans and successfully expelled them from Palmyra, also taking swathes of Asia Minor including Palestine & Lebanon,  before falling to the might of Aurelian and being paraded in chains in Rome after her capture.

beyond:  When I was in a bookstore in Mexico a few years ago, one of the biggest sellers was Fidel Castro's recently written autobiography.  I think it was called, "In His Own Words."  I wanted to buy it so badly, but it was only available in hardcover and was way out of my budget.  I've checked since then and have never been able to find it on Amazon.com  (not surprising).

I'd like to add one more to  my list.  I'd like to talk with Jimmy Carter and ask him point-blank if the humanitarian work that he's doing now is his way of trying to atone for the atrocities that were committed during his administration.  I think he's probably a genuinely good person, and I also think that a president cannot necessarily singlehandedly stop the imperialistic mechanism that this country has in place and in motion.  So, I'm thinking that some of the things that happened in Central America during his administration have to be weighing heavily on his conscience.  At least that's what I'd like to believe.

mlw: I love your idea of talking to Dr. Seuss!  Can I get in on that conversation?  Will we do it in the park?  Will we do it with a lark?

    Who would you talk too?
I was thinking about this as I was laying in bed, ...I know, how pathetic is life anyway??... but, it is interesting how we think about talking to.. famous people...like writers or artists..or ...politicians.. religious messengers.. and I am thinking how, one of the first things they would say is, "well, did you read my book?'' or something like that.. you know.. "you listened to the songs, right?.. " so.. you pretty well got my message.. whatever..
So then I am thinking.. it is not so much wanting to { talk } as it is to. be able to.. sort of hang out... you know... bask in the warmth and company of... and on that note.. I thought.. it is really wonderful to just be able to talk to the people who are here at the blog... you know.. it is really special. We have the net working for us... we have machines that work.. at least sometimes.. and we have come into each other's presence...
SO, my answer to that question now, is.. who?;; YOU! my dears. This is our cup of morning delight. Right? (I know.. that is way too close and personal and mushy.. so let's just forget we ever said it, ok??)
zombied420..good one.that would be one hell of a debate... might take it up as a fictional writing.. I can see some cool action there..I would add John Lennon to the list.. only, he would probably best be tied up.. and.. you know... tape or some restraint to be opened only when they need a comment.. else wise no one else would get to talk. lol
biglove: I can see at least 6 on your list, who would be mimicking Walrusses with the bread sticks.. I don't know how much eating anyone could do in a party like that. I hope they would not have to bring their lawyers and tape recorders... you know.. for copyright purposes.. what ever.
Polar..so good to hear you. Hope you be back soon.
on the topic of what Jesus thinks of present day religion:... hmm I think I heard him loud and clear when I was about.. 7 or 8... the sundayschool teacher got sick, and the mother who sat in for her did not know better ... and just read the gospes to us, straight up.. without doing the interpretation thing. When Jesus rails on the Pharisees.. well, those are the same suits we see today. I am pretty sure. And, I think about what it would be like to sit by, all those hours he spent braiding that cat of nine tails which he used to beat the merchants who were selling things in the temple.
I am pretty sure he feels the same; as I have, throughout my life, sincerely entered into and walked out of many a congregation... having been one searching for that answer and this is always what stands in my mind. when that question arises. and
I think there has to come a point where one says.. yeah, that is that.

zombied- I can't even imagine. However, like you I'd certainly like to be there.

infernal- How interesting from all of those names is Julie Andrews. Nothing wrong with it, the name just grabbed my attention amongst the others. I have enjoyed her through the years also.

biglove- Cool, indeed. That would be quite the get-together. Mae West , life of the party, right? I was wondering about the spelling of Paul's name too. Lynde? Linde? I don't remember. Maybe someone will help.

kelly- Of those you named, I'd choose Richard Feynman. I've read in many places about him. Quite the character, and quite the mind.

CW- I believe we could all go on and on. From those you listed, (aside from one which I chose) Jane Austin and Katherine Hepburn sound great to me.

mom- Your feelings about just wanting to be in Christ's  presence is quite understandable. From Joseph Smith, I'd like to hear the story of the translation from his own lips.

tbs- I too, have several I'd like to know if they are ok. Mostly grandparents.

ninja- Homer would be an excellent choice to me. Like you say, to know they really are.To know if he wrote the epics.

alyss- I have a book titled "Heroines" and another called "Warrior Queens" which I've not read cover to cover. I'll bet she's in the warrior queens one, and  will check. Thanks for answering.

kruu- I did not know about the auto-biography. It surprises me it's not offered by Amazon. Why would they care who wrote it?

polar- That is very sad. I have known someone in that position and they felt as you do.I can understand your feelings on everything you said.

front- Thanks for coming back. Very good thoughts.

beyond:  I have yet to check Amazon.co.uk, but the point is that you cannot buy this book in the United States of America.  It's called censorship.

muckraker, i saw you mention alexander hamilton and the duel.  i just listened to an audio book that discussed it.  it is called fallen founder, referring to aaron burr.  the book takes aaron's side and claims that alexander hamilton fought many duels in his lifetime and was a vicious slanderer of rivals in an era when politicians spoke in a very formal way but were unspeakably evil to each other when it came to planting absurd rumors.  the book says that hamilton and his coterie of slanderers insinuated that burr was having sex with his political supporters, male and female, and was having sex with his own daughter.  they painted burr as a devil.  burr, just a normal guy, had had enough eventually.  when hamilton was quoted as calling burr reprehensible, or some such thing, burr asked for an explanation, apology or retraction, hamilton basically told him to fuck off but not in those words, and the fight was on.  hamilton lied and said he was going to waste his first two shots, but when the duel occurred, hamilton shot to kill, and was killed in return.  this book paints hamilton as a very evil man.  of course if i were to read a biography of hamilton instead of a biography of burr i'd come out with a very different impression, don't you think?

in answer to this post, i'd want to talk to my parents, who are already back home in heaven, and the main thing i would want to ask them is what heaven is like, and also who i am there.

When I was a child, I was always thinking about politics and neocolonialism but I never thought these words and subjects exist. My country has been colonized so much before I was even born. My country has been fought over for its resources and wealth...
To some very fine ladies...
Don't we have a lot to talk about? Don't you have all kinds of crap weighing you down? Aren't you a little curious to make some sense of all if this? Yes, I know making sense is overrated, but you interest me. I want to know you, not just as a poet......
