Can you imagine the roar of a thousand million voices? Deafening would not be adequate as a description - more like Earth shaking.

So it happened when India lost to Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup recently!

India, BTW, plays mainly cricket - rugby is a very distant second, and soccer is not even mentioned.

Why? The general gist is that India was banned from playing soccer when they used magical tricks to make the ball do normally impossible things! Maybe it wasn't true. Who really knows?

Well, today's the day I guess, ed.

Cricket is played when a bowler pitches a ball at the batsman, who must either block it or hit it away to protect the wickets just behind him. Almost like baseball.

The protection for the shins and the crotch are necessary, believe me, because the ball is a definite ball and bone breaker.

If the fieldmen catch it, he's out; if he hits it out of their reach, it's a 4 along the ground or a 6 when it crosses the perimeter in the air.

Just call it the Anglicized version of baseball, only it came first! Hope that helps.
