While Surfing the web a few day's ago with a friend, who's son just got out of basic training I can across a web site. It has really bothered me since then, about this web site or what I read on there. The name of the site was www.marineparents.com it is for parents, wife's friend's or family of the marines. you can on certain days talk to someone about your marine, But back to the purpose of my blog, I also came across where they (marine's)are asking for care package's donation's, It seams that they are asking for alot of everyday items, Thing's we take for granted in our everyday life.Items such as SunBlock, (I'd say is very important there) Aloe Vera, Throat Lozenges, Gum, Mints, Eye Drops, Blistex, Chapstick, Eye glass wipes, Laundry soap, Saline spray, Tylenol, Moleskin pads for sore feet, Socks, Insoles, Hand sanitizer, Baby Wipes, Waterless soap, Toothpaste, toothbrushes, Travel Kleenex, lotion, Shampoo, Small pillows, THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.....Letter's of support from you, children, offices, schools, or other organization's who support our troops!!! There are alot of our own troops who don't get ANY mail over there, but with these letter's THEY DO...Hey I say Let's All SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!!!!  We American's take many things for granted, I would say in a war zone you take nothing for granted!!  LETS ALL SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!!! If It's just a letter just saying how much we appreciate them, in Iraq and Afghanistan... ~~Vanishingspirit~~

    Hey Vanish,
We do send care packages over there regularly to a friend.  At first, he was asking for things that you mentioned, but now doesn't ask for much of anything and seems quite content with getting food.  He had asked for Tampons.  I thought he was asking for the females that he was with, but he was asking for them because they work wonders on bullet wounds.  Who knew...

His last request, socks.  Summer is coming up there, might even be there by now, and he worried about sweaty feet and not enough socks.  I got my Husband a pair of these socks and he wore them out shoveling in the snow.  He came in and took them off and said "My feet are soaked! I didn't even know!"  So, I guess they work well, but they were really expensive for socks.

Also, according to him, depending on where you are based, everyday items are more available now than they ever were.

    I'm with you 100%!

    Spirit,

I agree with you in reference to letters and care packages. My son in law got back from Iraq in Feb of this year after being there a year. It is very hard being in Iraq plus needing all kinds of items we take for granted. My daughter was constantly sending him packages and my high school daughter and I would too. He loves the girl scout cookies and we sent him so many other things. Socks and underwear are very valuable and also coffee. But thank God that he is home safe and I pray that every one in Iraq fighting for our freedom. Oh, i have a website that anyone can send letters to Marines for free....they get them in form of letters delivered to their place where they sleep....www.motomail.com  it is a great way to keep in touch with some one you know or someone you could make his or her day. I also have a website where you can pay for care packages and you pick the person and the package you would like to send to....lets see  here it is.... www.treatsfortroops.com it has pictures of the person who have received packages and letters of thanks.... support our Troops...doesn't matter which branch of the Military they are in. God Bless All our Troops and God Bless all who pray and send care packages.

    Thanks for reading this Coment.

Like I always say...See Ya Later!!

Yes, Van, it is a shame!  It's amazing what kids recognize and it's sad that kids even know there's a problem!
These kids are in need of names and addresses of soldiers to send them pre-paid calling cards.  They are amazing kids!  Check out their story!

V- My son is in the Army in Iraq and he was in an IED ambush after only two weeks in-country. He's ok and we send him stuff all the time. I'm a Viet Nam vet, and am on a mission to get people to understand that supporting the troops means making sure that after their medical treatment (which is first rate) they need to be taken care of by the VA. At least now people are starting to look at that issue because of the Walter Reed fiasco. We need people to know that the Head of the claims part of the VA is an appointee of Don Rumsfeld. He came from the insurance industry and his mission was to streamline the claims process by denying service connection to wounded vets. We have an economist setting the priorities for health care. Bless you and yours, I'll post more later...

Ed, the kids can't (I don't believe anyone can) just write to "Any Soldier" anymore.  They are provided with names by friends and family members of soldiers that are all over the world.  I believe soldier's can request the phone cards themselves.

    I hadn't heard about this.

I was in Iraq itself for only three months, but I received a care package from my parents with lots of Western paperback books in it, which I shared with my buddies and eventually left in Iraq.

Most of my deployment was spent in Kuwait, where we had access to a much better PX than we ever had during the first Gulf War, and even in Iraq we would make regular trips to Baghdad International Airport which also had very nice PX facilities. For other areas of Iraq, though, I'm sure that health and comfort items are very nice for Soldiers and Marines to receive.

Even if they contain items that they already have access to, Soldiers and Marines appreciate mail from home. Even anonymous mail.

Help the Troops in Iraq! Shipping Care Packages to Marines
Help the Troops in Iraq! We currently ship over 700 care packages each month to Marines stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our database grows daily as Marines send us names of comrades who are not receiving mail or care packages. You can help get care packages of needed items to these Marines! Click Here to Learn how you can help...
    Quotes from Parents:
"We want to thank you so much for the package you sent to our son in Iraq. He said it is like Christmas when he gets a package over there. May God bless each and every heart and hand that prepared these care packages and those who work behind the scenes as well."
James and Ann, Marine Parents from Virginia, April, 2005

Because the Department of Defense (DoD) does not support adopt-a-soldier programs (Read the DoD Troop Support Mail Policy), we have a program which ships care packages only to addresses which have been supplied by Marines or family members of combat deployed Marines. To comply with the DoD policy, we do not share overseas mailing addresses with any third party, but WE'LL SHIP THE PACKAGES for you!
