short version: if you can't support the troops without also supporting the war, then what is the implication if you support the war but don't support the troops, such as by slashing veterans administration funding 10%? long version here.

Ed, I cracked up when your source page loaded: I read that paper every day growing up for it was my hometown paper.

Bush is very fond of making a big show of exclaiming support for one group or policy or idea but then acting in a completely antithetical manner once the cameras have stopped rolling and the press has moved on to the crise du jour.

What this communicates to me (as if I didn't already know): Bush is an idiot.

That's my take. But I am against name-calling, so I will attempt to rephrase my thoughts in a better manner.

Actions speak louder than words. One cannot believe everything said is true.

Perhaps by saying he supports the troops, he only means he supports them by saying he supports the troops. Make sense? He may take questions asked of him or the like literally.

Well, now, don't ask a pacifist who's not too fond of our dear Pres in the first place...but if you did, I'd say that he supports the troops while they serve his purpose and fit into his agenda. Veterans don't, per se, so it's no surprise to me that he doesn't really feel the need to support them 100% after they've completed their service. I think he uses people (not that most politicians don't, or that another president wouldn't) and tosses them aside after some extravagant political posturing to gloss over his impending actions.

I have stronger opinions on what exactly "supporting the troops" means, but I'll leave it at only what's directly related to the above topic. ;-)

    A 2-faced Son of a Republican...

But, I am not surprised.  Even odds Fox News won't discuss this issue in any event.

Sil- As a disabled vet with a son in the sandbox now(who's already been hit by an IED where one was killed and three injured) I take it pretty personal. Just to show how compassionate I am and that I don't hold a grudge, here is what I would like to see happen. Dick(trigger) Cheny and George the W need to go for another fighter jet ride. George can drive and once again we will have the media on an aircraft carrier, and once again we will mount the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner. This time though George and Dick will land the fighter by themselves just to show everyone just how macho they are. I don't know if we can sell tickets to this event, but tell me how much it costs and I'll find a way.

infernal, I don't think silverwhisper is a pacifist if that's what you mean.  Being disgusted with the prez doesn't make one a pacifist.

lambovet, I'd pay to see that too, but I don't think I'd want to be on the ship when it happens.  :-)
  • KayRoseOrchid said on Mar 22, 2007....
A pacifist is one who is opposed to war or violence of any kind. I believe infernal was calling oneself a pacifist.

I think I completely misread that post.  Thank you.

    bloc: yes, yes it is.

LJ: seriously?! that's just nuts! and while i don't think i've noticed that tendency in bush myself, he'd make a darned poor politician if his behavior wasn't slightly different when the attention is on him.

kay: i prefer the original formulation of that thought. :D

    infernal: heh...i quite agree. :>

cam: you know, that's an excellent point re: fox--i should go take a look later. :>

lambovet: first, thank you for your service. second, my brother-in-law was in the sandbox himself for a tour, he's a USMC reservist, so i have some understanding of the daily anxiety you must face. third, i don't watch NASCAR so i don't have a real need to see crashes. :>

The President is full of shit ed. You know this. They are a means to an end and he does what he likes with them as if they are pons in a game. He'll get it after the election period.

  • bloc said on Mar 23, 2007....
i think that was his point. That we should take action if we feel the government isn't doing enough.

My wife and I regularly give money to a veterans charity. We've been doing this for a while.
